His footfalls were nearly silent, lacking that tell-tale resounding clack on the floor as he made his way through the hallways. He continued walking casually past the staff, ignoring their milling about. Ruby-tinted eyes remained staring ahead, mind only focusing on the room number he had been given, and the instructions along with it. 'Let her rest', 'Don't bring up anything... unnecessary.', "Don't let her push herself,", and the like. At the drifting thoughts, he remained expressionless, though his eyes hardened slightly ( ... )

A present? Lucy pulled the animal toward her, hugging it gently before giving a small smile to the creature. It was sweet of Seraph to bring her something to keep her company as the smile and her gaze drifted up to look at the Daddy of their surrogate family. He looked... no different than he normally did. Yet, something felt different though as her hand fisted into the top layer of the blankets. She'd done something to worry him, she could tell.

"Hi," she said to him tiredly.

He turned his head towards her as she spoke. "Are you feeling well enough to speak?" Was all that he said, standing from the wall and letting his hands down from the side of his chest. He wasn't disappointed, he wasn't angry, nor anything else... simply concerned. It was difficult for the emotion to reach through his monotonous speech, though it was still there.

He finally spoke again, blinking once more. Perhaps it was the fact that he was actually blinking that showed his expression. "If not, perhaps you should rest. I have time." After all, Lucy need not hurry herself on his account.

He wasn't mad? That's good, Lucy thought as she nodded slowly. "I'll be okay," she replied.

She could hear people talking in the hallway in hushed tones before peeking into the room. Its occupant was awake they whispered before their shoes shuffled across the floor outside to fetch someone to check on Lucy. She was too weak to push herself up in the bed as she sighed lightly. "What happened to me?"

He was making rounds as best he could, just trying to be generally helpful around this place...even if he hadn't been of any help...

He shook the thought from his head. No, that was wrong. He'd tried.

The outfit wasn't his favorite, but he was lucky enough to be wearing loose blue pants, a long-sleeved blue shirt, and boots under the dress robe. The gauntlets and gloves had taken a bit of getting used to, but something about the outfit made him feel like maybe, just maybe, he could help out. ...and something about the red scarf made him feel a bit happier, but he couldn't be sure why. Perhaps he simply liked it ( ... )

The voice wasn't familiar to her ears but the name clicked in her mind as Lucy opened her eyes. She shifted her head to look over to her visitor and returned his smile. It was more genuine than any smile she'd been forcing onto her face over the past couple of weeks. Compared to the day before when her "Dad" had come to visit, she didn't look ready to fall over.

She'd tried to ask what had happened when they'd come to visit her earlier in the day but they shushed her. It wasn't necessary for her to worry about that they'd said to her gently. All she was told afterward was that her friends were okay and that she could go home in a few more days. It was pretty obvious to Lucy that they were taking care of things in the tree that they didn't want her to know about. It was okay though as she reached out her hand to Truth. The small stuff animal fell off the bed in the process.

"It's nice to meet you," she said softly but the smile could be heard in her tone. "Although I wish it was under better circumstances."

"Trust me- I'm feeling about the same right now."

She was different than he'd expected- much older, and it somehow resonated with him. Somehow, but he didn't know quite how.

He looked over at the tray of food.

"Hungry?"

...he would ask about the...incident at the bookstore later. He recognized her, now. No wonder she was in here.

Lucy couldn't lie to herself; she was starving. She followed his gaze toward the tray on a movable table and beamed happily. The brunette had missed breakfast from sleeping through the rest of the previous day and even when she'd asked for something, they'd only brought juice. The smell of whatever Truth had brought for Lucy had her mouth watering. It likely wasn't anything hard on the stomach as she wanted to sit up and pull the tray over. If she hadn't been told to stay relaxed in her bed, she would've done just that ( ... )

He couldn't think of the last time he'd been so worn at the edges. He had the feeling he'd been like this before, quiet and soft spoken without a trace of his real age. But the details as always were never there. Cross straightened his clothes as he walked down the hall checking on patients and faking being alright. What Scales had said seemed to resonate in his mind, his dream with the stateroom standing out starkly in the back of his head ( ... )

Her head snapped up from staring at the band-aid on her hand to see Allen -- no Cross -- coming into the room. She was about to reply before she saw the look on his face. He looked weathered as Lucy shifted about in the bed, her legs crossing under the blankets as she sat up. She was getting tired again but she stifled the yawn that wanted to come out.

Lucy wanted Cross to stay, at least until she fell asleep.

"I've been better," she answered simply, her voice displaying how tired she still felt. There was no point in lying to Cross as he'd likely see right through it if she tried. "How about you? And no dodging like you do in the journal either."

He must have looked bad, or tired. Cross wondered what his expression was that made her shut her mouth instead of speak at first. He picked up her chart from the end of the bed and smiled as well as he possibly could. "Do I look that bad?" It seemed easier to play a fool, and pretend he was okay. But he couldn't do it not right now. There was nothing left ( ... )

I'm sorry but I think she's about to ping him again. >.> lemonshine October 29 2008, 07:24:47 UTC
Well he certainly wasn't willing to hold anything back as she sank back into the pillows behind her. He'd seen something bad but Lucy couldn't figure out what but she just knew that it hurt. She reached out to Cross with her arm that was closest to him because he needed somebody. After what had happened, they all needed somebody who was willing to care. It all flashed before her eyes quickly but she pushed it back, afraid it would threaten to consume her again. If that happened, she'd never be able to smile again ( ... )

thursday the 30th, evening. lizardoverdose October 29 2008, 21:04:43 UTC
When he had visited Kanin earlier, he had passed by a place and looked inside, and he definitely knew who was there. Feeling even worse on himself (and this thought bubble giving words to all those self-depreciating thoughts), he had sprinted back to the marketplace and bought some lovely flowers for her and even a little romance novel that he hoped desperately that she liked. With all of this, he meandered back later that evening and insisted to see Lucy.

He approached slowly, flowers and book held behind his back, his steps slow and deliberate and his head bowed.

"Lucy?" He asked, his voice gentle. "Are you awake?"

It had only been a matter of time before Scales would come to visit. One of her partners in crime had definitely not been taking recent events well. If only she'd seen that entry where he apologized, she would've felt better. Yet she hadn't seen it and to say that she wasn't feeling apprehensive would have been a total lie.

She'd been dozing lightly, left with nothing but a small book of puzzles she'd completed hours ago. There was literally nothing for the girl to do but sleep. Rules had been implemented about visitors only coming in the afternoon so to hear someone in the evening surprised her. The lights were dimmed in the room, giving it a calming atmosphere as Lucy sat up in bed. Her eyes opened slowly as her gaze fell onto her hands.

"You okay?" she asked after she'd let the silence dwindle.

Thank god she was awake, things could have gotten pretty awkward otherwise. He stepped in slowly, sitting down at a chair to bring him down to her size a little more. Much better. He offered the flowers, "Hey...I'm sorry about what happened with all of that. I saw you while I was visiting Kanin.....I got you these to try to make it up to you. How are you feeling?"

Lucy glanced sideways toward the flowers before reaching out to accept the gift. She brought them to her nose and inhaled the scents from lilacs and lillies. Her eyes closed briefly and a smile had her cheeks creeping upward as she pulled the bouquet back. "They're beautiful, thank you...

Kanin's here?" she asked sharply. "Is he okay? What else has happened?"

[ooc: she doesn't know about what Kanin did so uh... >.>]
