※ About the Game
What is the Edensphere RPG?Edensphere is a multi-fandom, alternate universe RPG created by ten. and Matcha. It is a journal-based game wherein character journals must friend each other--all journals can be viewed with the main community's friend page. The game spans three communities:
  • edensphere (main community): The game's pertinent information can easily be found in this community.
  • edensphere_log (log community): This community is where most of the game's logs are posted. Other logs may take place in action threads in character journals--these are linked and tagged with the quick log template.
  • edensphere_ooc (OOC community): This is the community for players to post anything 'out of character'. As of Nov 28, 2009, membership is moderated, but we allow players to join and keep up with their player or personal journals if they so desire. The OOC comm is for any game plans or plot points that you would like to put out there for the whole RP. It's also out there for new player/character introductions, hiatuses, character drops, activity checks, event news, and mod posts. We also allow interactive memes (preferably the ones that could be shared directly on the comm rather than something posted in personal journals), fanart (please place under cuts, lock if there is questionable or inappropriate material), and other fun, interesting, or amusing things.
The premise presents the 'world' of Edensphere, a place wherein characters are born into the game via cocoons. None of these characters has any memory of his past or identity; instead, each has a single dream that perhaps is the only clue to who or what they might have been before. Upon arrival, characters are greeted by guides, who normally provide general information and necessary provisions before sending them forth to venture into the world of Edensphere on their own. Beyond this, however, players are free to choose whichever path they want for their characters. Some search for the deeper aspects behind Edensphere while others simply try to live new and normal lives. There are opportunities for characters to recover memories and learn more about themselves, and players themselves determine whether or not they want to take advantage of such opportunities.

Here's some meta/OOC-knowledge: the 'world' of Edensphere is not actually its own dimension, world, or universe. Mods are extending this much knowledge since players have asked questions requesting special treatment bypassing memory loss. There are no 'gods' in Edensphere, none who can bestow or grant abilities beyond a character's canon capacity. The 'game' of Edensphere is anything your character can and will make of it. It is player's choice whether or not to get characters involved in unraveling the mysteries behind Edensphere, and different characters have ICly discovered various bits and pieces of information. There's no one character who has all the pieces of the puzzle, and many players (especially those who have been in the game longer) will not openly share the discoveries that they have worked so hard to find; please respect these decisions. Both as a world and as a game, Edensphere continues to remain a puzzle that many are attempting to solve.

How does my character arrive and/or start out in Edensphere? After experiencing his/her dream, your characters wakes up and finds him/herself in a sticky, viscous liquid. While this syrupy substance is breathable, s/he may choke on it from shock and confusion. Whether simply reaching out or struggling free, your character breaks out of the cocoon without any clothing and no memories other than that one dream. A guide is waiting to greet your character after s/he breaks out of the cocoon. Generally all characters are born in The Hall of Beginnings, a white room in Square Zero. However, please be sure to pay attention to the current events or plot posts in the OOC comm specifying otherwise. No one yet knows how or why characters are born into Edensphere. It is part of the mystery that characters are trying to solve.

What is a birthday log, and is it mandatory to participate in one? This is an RP log of a character's arrival in Edensphere. (Examples can be found here.) Players are not required to participate, but it is recommended especially to those who would like some help 'breaking in' their characters and easing into Edensphere's setting and concept. In the event that you have not yet completed your birthday log, you will still be allowed to post a journal entry with your character or reply to other entries written around the time of your character's birth. Please include the line "Think of the giant squirrels. They think of you naked." before your yes/no response to the Birthday Log portion of your character application.

Are there any special items my character starts out with? The guide who is assigned to greet your character will provide him/her with the following items:
  • Towel: Something to wipe away all the cocoon goo that characters originally find themselves submerged in. Most of the towels are beige or off-white, and characters will find that they are allowed to take these towels home with them if they wish.
  • Set of clothing: A generic clothing set consisting of a one-size-fits-all t-shirt and drawstring pants or loose slacks. Larger characters may find the clothes fit fairly comfortably, but smaller characters will definitely find them rather loose. Important items (such as eye wear for vision impaired characters) are sometimes conveniently tucked into the clothing.
  • Map of Edensphere: [ link] Paper maps to help characters navigate Square Zero and The City Without Walls. Characters are free to draw on these maps however they see fit, but these marks will NOT appear on anyone else's maps. There have been times that the map has 'magically' updated itself in the past, but they are not all too frequent.
  • Pouch of coins: A pouch containing enough Edensphere currency to survive on bare necessities for at least a month. The coins are not metallic but made from bark of the Majestic Oak and other substances from the Scavengers' Yard. Although the coins may be properly dissolved and digested, anyone who eats them will show signs of nausea and fatigue until the coins have completely left the body. Medics will be able to give coin-poisoned patients some medicated gum made from the tree leaves. While patients can throw away the gum and eat proper food, they must get a new piece of gum immediately after meals.
  • Paper journal: The journal is made of special paper from the tree in the midst of the sphere, and its special nature makes it so that anything written in the journals can be seen by all others who possess one. It's a great way to communicate with others except nothing is ever private. All messages from one person to another can be seen by everyone else unless completely stricken, inked, blotted, or otherwise completely covered up. Like paper in our world, writing can be made illegible, struck out, completely obliterated, accompanied by doodles or works of art (images). We would like to stress that NOTHING is private; please remember that there's no such thing as 'Private//Unhackable' entries or any filtration of that sort. Even if you tear out a page from the journal and write on it, whatever is written seems to magically publish itself to everyone else even though it is no longer bound with the rest of the journal. Additionally, your own character user icons do not appear in any way, shape, or form, thus leaving everyone to become really good at deciphering penmanship. Also, take note of the language geas implemented in Edensphere.

Where does my character go after being born?Your character is free to leave the Hall of Beginnings after s/he is born (and obtains his/her special items). A guard will lead your character to the temporary residential area, where s/he is allowed to stay for a maximum of three weeks. Therefore, guards will urge the character to find employment because it is the only way to secure permanent housing.

※ Game Mechanics
Where do I post the characters' entries, and where do I find everyone else's posts? As a journal-based RPG, characters post directly into their own journals instead of the Edensphere communities. For example, all of Fugue's entries can be found on fugue-angel.livejournal.com. All players can find active journal entries (including their own) on their friends page (for example, npc-kun.livejournal.com/friends), which acts as the paper journal that each character is given at the time they are born. If your post includes images, please place these behind an LJ-cut in consideration for others.

How do I log with my character? Also called scening or logging, communication or actions that are not written in the journals are called 'logs'; these are posted and tagged in edensphere_log. To set up a log, post an HTML entry in the log community using the formal log format specified in the profile. Then, feel free to invent and detail a situation for your log; it may be posted as incomplete in anticipation of other character responses via comments.

IM logs: If/when players IM log, we request they post the logs to the log community. Be warned that anything that is not citable in logs or journals cannot and will not be counted as in-game canon. Mods cannot regulate what people choose to play or do on their own, but if there are any complaints about OOCness, GMing, or meta-gaming, the mods will be unable to defend anyone who has not provided background context for questionable journal entries or other arguments. If players have agreed or assumed specific interactions (called handwaving), please cite them in the OOC community or in OOC note on log entries or character journals.

Other logs: 'Quick logging' is an action thread that takes place within a character journal; it's logged on the fly and never formally posted in the log community. In order to track these informal logs as activity, we request that you please link your thread using the 'quick log' format indicated on the log community profile.

Friends Locking/Ratings/Warnings: Please be sure to follow the guidelines on locking, rating or providing warnings for adult and world plot content as specified in the log community profile.

The game seems really active--how do I know what's going on?It depends on what you want to do with your character. Edensphere seems to be a huge, mysterious and even magical place. While some characters are doing their detective-work and trying to crack the case, there are other characters who are living a life without a care in the world, just making friends and reacting to events that affect the game on a whole.

The best ways to get yourself out there are to reach out to players OOCly and to get some plotting going, post stuff in your character journal, reply to other character journals, and extend or join open logs. You're also more than welcome to speak to any of the moderation team for suggestions and help in getting your character out there.

Similarly, if you were on hiatus, you may find that you've missed a lot of things or that there are more new members who you're not familiar with. Don't fret--join the AIM Edensphere chat, edensphere, and say 'hi'. Players are more than willing to get to know you and your character. If you'd like an explanation for your characters' long absence, feel free to drop us a line on the plotting post, emailing edensphere@gmail.com, or IM someone on the moderation team.
