Balance was rarely Ahiru's stock in trade. However, her lessons with Fool on the tightrope had improved things. For the first few minutes, Ahiru wobbled unsteadily, and every now and then her feet slid out from under her. Yet she would always get back up to try again. And every time Ahiru fell, she always grinned as she got back to her feet.
Ahiru hadn't expected to see Achmed out and about, but she was always glad to see him. She gave an enthusiastic wave which threw off her balance and sent her toppling to the ice once more.
"It's something people do in winter," she answered as she laughed at her own clumsiness.
Misawa believed in the principle of sound mind, sound body. He also believed that he a girlfriend with certain expectations of him, and he refused to let himself go soft by cooping himself up with his books all day. Therefore, he made it a point to get out once or twice a day, weather permitting, and make a few circuits around the compound.
He was nearing the end of his route and beginning to think about going back inside before his toes froze completely, when he noticed someone out on the lake, skidding along on ice skates. It was a charming sight, and he lingered a moment to watch while he caught his breath.
Ice-skating was fun, but it was also a lot of work! Ahiru decided that if Neko-sensei could get all of the girls learning to ice skate, he'd have a whole class with excellent balance. Maybe she ought to suggest that when she returned home. Of course, if Neko-sensei didn't like that idea, then he'd tell Ahiru that she had to marry him.
Stopping to catch her breath, Ahiru realized that someone was watching. She smiled and waved to her audience.
Misawa grinned. He liked being noticed, even if it was a trivial sort of notice. That was worlds better than being overlooked. He gave a cheerful wave in reply.
Mokuba watched the girl skate, having spotted her while taking a walk. Maybe he should get ice skates? It would be a good way to spend the time and the girl seemed to be having fun on them.
