Alive with fire and one last chance.

On Wednesday, I got most of my hair chopped off. I think the longest section now is maybe two inches. It's all spiky and messy and razor-cut and there's this huge swath of purple in the front. I fucking love it. It's so low maintenance too because I just wake up with bed head and fluff it up a bit and that's it. I'll have to post pictures tomorrow ( Read more... )

I kind of feel like applying for it without letting her know is somehow against corporate etiquette, but as you point out, they could promise me the moon and I'd never get it. I mean, I still haven't gotten my fucking laptop.

I won't, but Tom and Jill are going to move there! :(

I know. Ugh, I hate this whole situation.

I know. They're leaving for London on Monday and are spending a month there. Jill insisted so that Tom will have time to finish his novel. They haven't said it yet, but I have a feeling they're also going to be scoping out living there.

Hee!

I think it should be a combo of one and three. Apply for it AND tell your boss your interest in it. If you done or the other, but not both, you're walking a fine line of politics and upsetting the other person.

Best case scenario: He totally supports your moving up in the world, and you get an awesome, higher-paying job.

Worst case: He doesn't support it all and turns into a dick, which would probably make your decision to take the job even easier.

Yes and I don't want to upset anyone. I like my boss.

She probably would support it, but I know it would really kill her department and I'd feel so guilty.

Ugh. Who knew that having a career was so difficult?!

I hear ya. I've been through similar situations. You just to remind yourself, when you're feeling guilty about leaving those people behind, that any one of them would probably do the same. Leave without full consideration. If you were to take everyone around you into consideration each time you make a career decision, you'd probably never go anywhere. You have to think about yourself because nine times out of ten, they aren't. Not in a rude way that they wouldn't care about you, but they're going to do what's best for them, too ( ... )

You're right about that.

I guess it turns out that you have to have your manager's approval before applying for another position. Which is kind of weird, if you ask me. I'm going to have to talk to her when she gets back from vacation.

Thanks for the advice! :D

I think you should talk to your boss first. Give her an actual list of all the things you've done above and beyond your actual job and all the hours you've put into your job (especially if it's extra time), and say that while you like your job and your department, you would like to be more recognized for the work you do. You don't have to mention the slacker co-worker, but do mention that while you're always praised for your work and work ethic, you never seem to get any real recognition for it. If you want, mention that you've been offered another position, but you wanted to talk to her first before you made any decisions because you like and respect her enough to talk to her about these things ( ... )

She has a list of things, I would assume. They're in my year-end review and she gets copied on all the "thnx so much u rock hardcore!" emails. I think it just kind of slips her mind or something? I guess writing it all down so she has it in front of her and going over it with her would help, but I really suck at that! I mean, seriously, I couldn't sell a bottle of water to man dying of thirst in the desert, much less myself to my boss. Sigh.
