Priscilla made reservations a few weeks ago for a couple of us girls to attend a little stargazing safari at Robinson Preserve tonight after they closed the park. Pete asked me if I wanted to go and find some fireworks to watch, but we'd both had a long day and so I said no, but thanks for asking. He really doesn't see the thrill in fireworks, I guess he's seen enough of them, so it was a big deal that he even asked ( Read more... )

On June 18 I was heading out early morning in search of birds to photograph. I walked out the front door and saw the moon to the southwest. I snapped one picture of it at 6:43 a.m. with “little red,” got in the car and started driving to Priscilla’s house to pick her up.

Here's some pictures I just took of the moon tonight. I'm a little disappointed that none of the crater detail that I saw with my eyes showed up in any of them. I was contending with street lights and yard lights and wonder if that might be why.

I thought the clouds turned out nice though. They were moving pretty fast.

There were some wildfires or controlled burns in the northern part of the state and the last few days have been hazy. No smoke smell down our way, just a light haze in the air from morning to night. Hazy goes right along with the heat and humidity we’ve been having lately, making for lazy Florida summer days ( Read more... )

I got up in the dark this morning . . . about 7 a.m. As I looked out the kitchen window, I could see the sun was just breaking through the row of trees in the back. Not knowing what kind of picture I'd get in that kind of light, I grabbed my camera and walked outside.

So far I have gone to two of the Audubon Birdwatching Classes, then two more next week. Tomorrow is the first all day field trip and then another one next Saturday. I like it very much and feel I am learning a lot of valuable information that will really benefit me in the future ( Read more... )
