I had to make a quick trip to the Island this morning. I left about 8:00, but because of DST it was still dark out. I swung by the Botanical Park and they had just opened their gates. It was pretty quiet -- no birds in the front pond, but as I sat there in the car, a hawk swooped down past my windshield and up onto a light pole on the other ( Read more... )

I had to lighten up the picture a bit in photoshop because it was still pretty dark. It was hard to see the markings on the bird.

Yes, I liked that combo of light and bird, too.

Yes, that's definitely a redshoulder. Of all the hawks I think the redshoulders sit up the straightest when perched. Their backs are almost a line.

I thought it might be, but didn't think the chest area was as brightly marked as I remembered.
