My $600 Workout

Yup.  I had a $600 work-out this morning.  At least as close as I can figure that's how much it cost.  The YMCA membership is around $100 bucks a month, and this was the second time I've gone this year.  I've been saying to myself that I need to cancel the Y because no one uses it, because I hate gyms and would much rather go outside and walk up ( Read more... )

It is more incentive to go more often. Not only do I need to work off the chocolate, but also to lower the per-visit price. Just two more times and I'll be at $300 a workout!

I hate gyms, but specifically I hate working out on machines. I had a Y membership in Brooklyn a few years ago and used it only two or three times. Hated the sound of the machines. Hated the lack of acknowledgment among all the grunting, sweating people that they were all there, existing. A student in my public speaking class did a presentation recently about personal fitness, and in the Q&A bit afterwards, she was pretty clueless when I asked what one could do for exercise in lieu of working out on machines.

I hate machines too. Hate them. And I'm so impatient on them -- after 5 minutes I'm wondering when the fuck I can get off the damn thing. I've got no problem walking for hours, but 30 minutes on a machine is sometimes like torture. It was a bit better with music, but not much. Reading doesn't work either.
