The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit

This one's sort of a stealth favourite of mine - took a while for it make an impression, but somewhere along the line it just snuck up on me and, yeah. XD

Spoilers for Planet of the Ood and a little bit for Army of Ghosts.
Also warnings for Gwen-poking and random Adric-love.
Out of that whole pantheon, if I believe in one thing, just one thing... I believe Balrogs really do wear fluffy slippers )

2x08 the impossible planet, 2x09 the satan pit

And "impossibly old" means... before the universe? Or only before Gallifrey?

Once time travel had been mastered, before Gallifrey wouldn't really be an obstacle, so before the universe fits better.

And Rose gets introduced to the Ood, and they creep her out...

I think it's less them, as such, and more their 'happy slave' attitude. Well, and the devil speaking through them...

Rose trying to connect with the Ood. Oh, she'd be so happy to know what the Doctor and Donna did for them.

It really is a pity she couldn't be there.

"The Beast and his armies shall rise from the pit to make war against God." Um, okay. That's oddly cute, though.

I thought so, too! There's just something about the delivery there.

"Don't look at me." Oh, I'm the Beast, I'm so ugly, no one loves me... Oh, Luci, you're so emo.

LOL I think it's more to do with taunting Toby, though. What you don't see is always more frightening than what you do.

I love how he knows exactly where Earth is from here.

It's kind of his home now.

"They're so stupid, they don't ( ... )

It's still the oldest civilisation in the galaxy, though, according to him, and you wouldn't send colonists back to settle in the past, would you? So he'd still consider it practically the same thing...

I think it's less them, as such, and more their 'happy slave' attitude.

That's what I mean, that's what creeps her out about them. She keeps trying to make connections with them because she wants there to be more to them than that, and then they won't be creepy.

Well, and the devil speaking through them...

Well, that is scary. But it's also later.

It really is a pity she couldn't be there.

Cloen can tell her the story, though.

I thought so, too! There's just something about the delivery there.

It's just cos they're the Ood! They're even cute when they're scary!

"Some may call him Abaddon." Nah, can't be the same one, can it?

Maybe there's more than one. Sort of like the Dread Pirate Roberts.

And she's getting panicky now - I suppose you would when you've been suddenly confronted with something claiming to be the actual Devil and it quite blatantly wants to kill you.

And she's seen enough of the universe now not to discount the possibility that it's telling the truth about that.

I really hate to say it, but that sounds like someone else as well...

It's a fine line sometimes.

I'm sorry, Jefferson. I'm so sorry.

I was sorry to see him go.

And I love how every single death in this ep is recognised and honoured and mourned.

I like that sense of respect. Respect for all forms of life is an ongoing theme in this show, that it always
matters, but we don't often see it so well illustrated.

Has he ben faking it ever since the Beast first entered him, has he been dead that whole time?

Or even worse, a helpless passenger in his own body.

And the beast throws a fit, and now Toby can breathe ( ... )

Only less cool. Although - "Who are you two, you never said?" "Oh, the stuff of storybooks", no, doesn't work. *looks around for a hill for Ten and Rose to roll down while yelling "Allons-y!" cos you know he would*

And she's seen enough of the universe now not to discount the possibility that it's telling the truth about that.

Oh, yes, this is her first encounter with actual mythological stuff, isn't it, she doesn't know how those usually turn out...

It's a fine line sometimes.

And I think he knows it, too. And the Beast certainly does: "This one knows me, as I know him."

I was sorry to see him go.

I was, too... that's another thing I love about this ep - I like everyone in it, so much... not like Waters of Mars, where I like, oh, about half of them? And 42 where I can barely even remember the supporting cast.

Or even worse, a helpless passenger in his own body.

Yeah, that's the option I was trying to avoid...

If he can survive vacuum, why not?Well, yeah ( ... )
