The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit

Sep 17, 2010 14:36

This one's sort of a stealth favourite of mine - took a while for it make an impression, but somewhere along the line it just snuck up on me and, yeah. XD

Spoilers for Planet of the Ood and a little bit for Army of Ghosts.
Also warnings for Gwen-poking and random Adric-love.
Out of that whole pantheon, if I believe in one thing, just one thing... I believe Balrogs really do wear fluffy slippers )

2x08 the impossible planet, 2x09 the satan pit

"Some may call him Abaddon." Nah, can't be the same one, can it?

Maybe there's more than one. Sort of like the Dread Pirate Roberts.

And she's getting panicky now - I suppose you would when you've been suddenly confronted with something claiming to be the actual Devil and it quite blatantly wants to kill you.

And she's seen enough of the universe now not to discount the possibility that it's telling the truth about that.

I really hate to say it, but that sounds like someone else as well...

It's a fine line sometimes.

I'm sorry, Jefferson. I'm so sorry.

I was sorry to see him go.

And I love how every single death in this ep is recognised and honoured and mourned.

I like that sense of respect. Respect for all forms of life is an ongoing theme in this show, that it always
matters, but we don't often see it so well illustrated.

Has he ben faking it ever since the Beast first entered him, has he been dead that whole time?

Or even worse, a helpless passenger in his own body.

And the beast throws a fit, and now Toby can breathe fire?

If he can survive vacuum, why not?

And Rose goes straight for the gun, and shoots out the window. "Go to hell."

There's a certain symmetry in her doing that, when she protected him from Jefferson earlier.

And Rose steps onto the TARDIS, and he looks at her the same way he did at the start of New Earth, and that hug makes me so happy!

It's all rather epic.

Doctor, let me introduce you to Mr Kettle. Remember that city you were so determined to explore? The one you sabotaged the TARDIS to create an excuse to go to? On that planet, what was it called again...? Oh, yeah, Skaro.

LOL It's why he loves us so much. Kindred spirits.

And we finish with Zach recording the deaths, including giving all the Ood honours. *hugs him*

That was a lovely touch. I do like Zach.

Only less cool. Although - "Who are you two, you never said?" "Oh, the stuff of storybooks", no, doesn't work. *looks around for a hill for Ten and Rose to roll down while yelling "Allons-y!" cos you know he would*

And she's seen enough of the universe now not to discount the possibility that it's telling the truth about that.

Oh, yes, this is her first encounter with actual mythological stuff, isn't it, she doesn't know how those usually turn out...

It's a fine line sometimes.

And I think he knows it, too. And the Beast certainly does: "This one knows me, as I know him."

I was sorry to see him go.

I was, too... that's another thing I love about this ep - I like everyone in it, so much... not like Waters of Mars, where I like, oh, about half of them? And 42 where I can barely even remember the supporting cast.

Or even worse, a helpless passenger in his own body.

Yeah, that's the option I was trying to avoid...

If he can survive vacuum, why not?

Well, yeah. It's just a really sudden... yeah.

There's a certain symmetry in her doing that, when she protected him from Jefferson earlier.

Ooh, nicely caught!

LOL It's why he loves us so much. Kindred spirits.

He'll never admit that's why, though. XD
