A woman here at work just got her hair lightened. With her face shape, hair color, and the way it was styled, she looks remarkably like Lucy Lawless, and I told her so. I showed restraint and did NOT ask her who the Final One is, though it was hard.

She was all, "Who's Lucy Lawless"? *sigh*

How am I? Tired. I have been working hard on a deadlined project all week, and the stress of having to meet the deadline has led to fitful sleep every night. Last night I woke up at 2am and never got back to sleep. I woke up panicked with a head full of swirly thoughts. Last night rfunk and I made chili for a chili cookoff that was held at work today as a charity fundraiser. We chose a Vegetarian Jamaican Jerk Chili recipe from The Vegetarian Chili Cookbook. I love working in a place where I can overhear an impromptu lecture on the physics of glaciers as I walk down the hall.

I spent yesterday afternoon working the agency's booth at Ohio's Farm Science Review, an agricultural fair held about half an hour west of Columbus. I managed a reasonable approximation of someone who is not shy and likes kids. When a possible new direction keeps popping up in your life, maybe it's time to seriously consider it. I had a conversation yesterday in which a possible new career direction was discussed. This is the third time this particular subject has surfaced for me. Each time before I have dismissed it. Maybe it's time to rethink things.

A story this morning on Morning Edition about dollar stores reminded me that my first job was at Wilson's 5 to 10 Cent Store. Already in 1985 that name felt anachronistic (doesn't a five and dime sound incredibly 1950's?) now it seems even more so since there is not even a cent symbol on my keyboard. The building renovations where I work have progressed to the roof of late. And with all the rain we have had recently, I guess there were bound to be some leaks. We came to work Wednesday to a building with a lot of leaks. It wasn't completely flooded, but there was a lot of wet carpet.
