Tonight, rfunk and I are going to see Peter Murphy in concert. Now, whenever I tell people this I get this blank stare, and "Who's Peter Murphy?" So, for those of you who don’t know, Peter Murphy is the Godfather of Goth. He was the lead singer for the seminal goth band Bauhaus. Peter Murphy went solo after Bauhaus broke up in 1983 (the rest of Bauhaus ( Read more... )

I love the bass and violin in that.

Here's the one that's been haunting me lately:
"I'll Fall With Your Knife"

That song is nice, but my favorite song from that album is "Mirror To My Woman's Mind". It doesn't seem to be on Youtube, but I think you have it.

!!!!!!

I saw Bauhaus on their tour in 1999(?). I knew some Peter Murphy but no Bauhaus. It was an awesome show. I am excited for you!

Were you outwardly goth in those years? Did you hang out with goths/gamers?

I was going through difficult times with my parents at the time (they were splitting up, and putting me in the middle of that, emotionally). Thought I wasn't very outwardly goth, I did wear a lot of black, and a little bit of the makeup. I found it emotionally comforting.

Sadly, I didn't know any goth types at the time. I was in graduate school fulltime. I ate, slept, and bled geology. I hung out with the other geology students. My best friend, the one I went to the club with, was a guy I was secretly in love with. He wasn't goth, but he loved the music. He was smart, funny, and nice, and we had a fantastic time together. He was too tall for my normal tastes, but he liked and accepted me, and I was dying for acceptance then. Sadly, though, he didn't return the depth of my feelings. We had what the kids today would call a "friends with benefits" thing for a few weeks in the summer of 1991, then went our separate ways.

I bet the Bauhaus show was great. I would have loved to have seen them!

Thank you, that was educational. I'd never heard of Bauhaus until the mid-90s or so, but I was a big fan of Siouxsie and Depeche Mode, and I liked Love & Rockets back when they were getting a lot of radio play...like, '88 or '89, I think. Used to have a "Greatest Hits" CD of Siouxsie and the Banshees, but I think it's wandered off, probably gone looking for my Type O Negative and Nine Inch Nails CDs.
