Spur-of-the-moment caving trip

Jan 28, 2008 14:13

Friday afternoon, just before I left work for the day, a friend at work stopped by my cubicle asking if she could borrow my hard hat. Turns out she and her husband were going caving with another couple on Saturday. Two couples who had also been planning to go had backed out of the trip at the last minute, so there was actually room on the trip for ( Read more... )

This doesn't sound like my kind of adventure. I can't crawl on my knees and I get claustrophobic in tight spaces. But it does sound like you had a blast, and that is terrific.

I've been lucky never to have had claustrophobia. But I was very glad that I have been taking glucosamine for over a month. If I hadn't my knees would have been complaining. Honestly, though, the only part that bothered me was having to climb up an 8 foot vertical face (with handholds, thank goodness) after having been in very cold water. My legs were numb and just didn't want to bend right. But other than that it was fun.

I just love that there exist in the world the words "Geomorphology Gone Wild." That sounds like a fun weekend!

Yes, indeed. Though the trip itself wasn't nearly as wild as the phrase might lead one to believe. Still, I did appreciate the geological bent of the tour.

Spontaneous adventures do, however, tend to make one forget to follow up with people! We are still interested in the Flogging Molly show next Tuesday. We'll have to make plans to meet up somewhere.

Oh, that's certainly okay! I almost forgot myself, and I haven't even been doing anything so distracting. It's been way too long since I was over to Columbus, so I'm sort of fuzzy on what's where. I'm pretty sure Neil Avenue is over fairly near Short North, so would you want to want to meet up somewhere in there?

That trip sounds like such a blast! I've never really been caving. Closest was a tour through a cave that was very well-marked & lit when I was a kid.

I went on a lighted tour through Mammoth Cave when I was 14 or so. That was neat. Going through tiny passageways with nothing but a headlamp is quite a different experience.

It's been so long since I've been caving. Did you know that bri_o and I met in a caving club? I crashed my car and so needed rides to the Central Florida Cavers meeting. He drove right past my apartment on his way, so he would stop to pick me up. :-)

Yes, I do remember you telling me that you guys had met in a caving group. You should go caving again!
