I do not think that the short in back/long in front look is a good one for anyone; I think of it as The Kate Gosselin Chop. Maybe we're not thinking of the same style, I don't know, but the one I'm thinking of is THE most unflattering thing in the history of evar. Admittedly my current hair is slightly shorter in back than in front, but it's supposed to be a '20s-style bob, so at least it looks logically consistent. Which The Kate Gosselin Chop doesn't. (Also, I prefer my hair long and dark, or at least a color that doesn't occur in nature. None of my hair actually grows on my head, though, so I can look normal at work and like an anime character on my own personal time. Most people don't have that luxury ( ... )

I know the Chop of which you speak. I don't like that cut. It's - dare I use the offensive term - dikey. It's hard to explain exactly what I would do to my poor, traumatized hair, except to say something more like a swing bob or an A-line bob. I would like the back longer, not short and spikey, but the front longer still. If it helps, when I put my hair in a ponytail, I always have the fronts of my hair out and on either side of my face, so something that still achieves that.

Adamantly not what Kate Gosselin was attempting to rock.

I do want to put the bangs back in, and probably cut them to be sideswept. But I wanted to do something with the rest of it, too. I have not cut my hair since I was thirteen, so I almost feel like changing it a little bit without hacking it all off.

I'm envious of people like Tara who have the guts to just go out and change their hair. My hair grows pretty slowly so I always hesitate to make changes to it. Plus, it's very fine; there aren't many styles that I like and can pull off.

I am trying to answer this comment for the third time, because I either keep getting tired and falling asleep or because I have to go do other things and I get distracted and wander off. Damn. So you get plus-sign points. It's not because I don't l0ff you.

+ I don't find that term offensive, but I can't say the same for the implication that any self-respecting dyke would want to look like Kate Gosselin ^_-
+ Had to look up different kinds of bobs. My preferred hair at the moment is a swing bob, a bit like Catherine Zeta-Jones in Chicago except I'm not hot like Catherine Zeta-Jones. Damn. Your hair is finer so it might look better if you kept it longer.
+ I just buy different hair if I want a change :D I realize this is a luxury not everyone has, though.

XD I figured you were dealing with far more important things, especially given the status of your Facebook and LJ - don't worry about it, L33-my-l0ff!

I know some not-so-self-respecting dykes who used to have hair like this, or who used to like this style and want to wear it. But they don't count. ^_~

I posted a picture in response to Zelly's comment below this one. It's a more exaggerated version of the swing bob. Although I think that those 20s flapper haircuts are so cute and when women can pull them off, I'm impressed. My hair is too fine to wear it so short.

I wish I could buy different hair and get away with it, in a non-cosplay sense. I love me my wigs and my extensions, but it's such a pain and my clip-ins were so pricey that I can't justify buying more than one set.

I'm not really sure what kind of style you're trying to describe. Are you talking quite short, spiked up in the back? Or bobbed? With the long bang-ish things on the sides, and blunt bangs / side bangs over the forehead? I think a stylist always knows best what to do with hair, especially since your hair is quite thin. If you have any photos of said ideal hair, you should post 'em!

Something very similar to this:

And I also really like the style on the right (the black wig), especially for the bangs and the flippy shape of the front locks:

Gotcha! That's what I was picturing. I've seen the style a lot, especially around here, though what I see more often is how weird it begins to look once it grows out too long, LOL. Adam's sister had it for a while, it was super cute.

I think you should just visit a stylist you trust, even if it costs a little bit more. I think investing the money in a good stylist is worth it. Also, if your stylist isn't answering calls, that's their loss. And kinda bad business practice, in my opinion. D:

Aaaanyway, I'd say schedule an appt. and go for it, as long as the stylist is confident. Life is short and hair grows back!
