It looks like Jesse Spencer has a Type.

A bit of Casey meta (which took its origins from an interesting tweet from Jesse Spencer) that I'm cross-posting from my Tumblr.

I started watching Chicago Fire because of Jesse Spencer. Even when I wasn’t terribly impressed by the first two episodes, I continued watching because I’d been so taken with Spencer’s portrayal of Chase and the ( Read more... )

Wow, this is so cool. I can't believe you noticed so many similarities--or that there even *were* so many similarities!

I, like you, spent a lot of time watching Jesse Spencer on House. He was definitely my favorite character in that show, and Casey is easily my favorite in Chicago Fire. I actually had no idea he was in CF when I first started watching, though... To be honest, I half thought I was imagining him at first lol. Then I FREAKED when I realized it was him. Though I honestly love every character in the show, I can admit that I've latched onto Casey simply because he's played by Jesse Spencer.

Haha, thanks! Given that I started watching CF because of Spencer, I did have a pretty huge bias towards Casey going in. What was deeply frustrating about the first couple of episodes was that Casey was a huge cipher as a character--too goody-two-shoes, if you know what I mean. The show got really interesting from the third episode, when the whole affair with Voight started, and Casey became a little more three-dimensional. Also, I discovered House only in May 2012, so watching both shows simultaneously means I'm in a position to track the similarities between both characters a little better. :)

I can admit that I've latched onto Casey simply because he's played by Jesse Spencer.

I know what you mean. :D

Oh, wow, you're watching them at the same time? Haha, that makes sense that you'd spot them easily. I watched House years ago; I think I jumped in somewhere around the third or fourth season, so it's been a long time since I've watched it.

I am so happy to hear I'm not the only Jesse Spencer/Casey lover out there. I feel like most people in the fandom adore Severide, and yes, while I do like Kelly, Casey will always be my favorite. :)

Thank you very much for this great post!
A am also a big fan of Jesse Spencer and obviously love both Chase and now Casey.
I was so happy for Jesse when he finally got the leading role b/c he was totally underused as an actor in House. I hope, CF authors will not repeat this mistake and it won't become another similarity with Chase . But I feel like there is not enough Casey on the show...Maybe, it's just me...Jesse is so yummy that I want to see him in every scene lol

Very interesting observations. I watched House for Chase and I watch Chicago Fire for Casey. Jesse Spencer won me over for life in the scene from House in Forever when Chase was praying over the dead baby. While I see the connections you make, I also see Chase and Casey as very different characters. I don't think of Chase when I watch Casey. I think Casey's temper is one thing that makes him different. He's a bit of a hot-head whereas Chase was not. Also, Chase became a male slut and Casey was with the same woman for 8 years. I like that difference too. I'm glad Severide's the slut in CF. ;) I'm glad Chicago Fire is doing well and it looks like it will be renewed. My TV would seem so empty without Jesse Spencer to watch every week. I also hope they'll do more with Casey. Sometimes it seems like he's barely in the episodes, maybe because there are so many characters.
