Ottawa is in the throes of a full-on winter storm. This in sharp constrast to last year, when winter didn't really get going until well into January. I have nowhere I need to be today, so let it snow

Ooo, that's good information. mrclick has dreams of putting all 2000 of his books (or some number like that) in shelves displayed through my little condo. Perhaps I can persuade him to keep it to just a few shelves, keeping the other books in boxes since I would imagine we'll move after a few years.
Although maybe it's worth putting more out in the open until we need to sell the place. It is a few years after all...
hee hee... yup, the boy sure loves books. I'm curious to know what he thinks of the new Amazon Kindle that sinnick was talking about this week. It would really cut down on real estate, but is it as good as the real thing?

Not to me. There's a sensual experience to reading that I love. The smell of paper, the sound of turning the pages, the weight in my hands...all an essential part of enjoying a good book.
I hear ya! Right now, I have four (large) boxes of books making me sad. We'd been using a bookshelf that belonged to my sister, and she needed it once she moved, and then the books were on the dining room table for months, and then we were having a party, so I had to move them. Scott wants to build new bookshelves for the whole room, but he's been saying that for about 8 months now. I don't think my books are leaving their boxes anytime soon! Le sigh.
I once had a fantasy about building my own shelves. But then I realized that my woodcraft skills exist only in alternate universes (where, incidentally, candy has nutritional value and doesn't rot your teeth).
After that epiphany, I went to Ikea and bought some shelves.
My other books are on Ikea bookshelves. :) I'm not sure what Scott's woodcraft skills are like, but if all else fails, my dad is good at them, and I'm pretty competent, so we should be able to do something.
I completely understand about the books - I brought about 2/3 of my book collection with me to residence, even though I have a not overly large room which I'm sharing with a roommate and had only our car to bring it in. They took up about half the packing space and meant I couldn't bring a couple of other things. They are currently living under my bed. I've read maybe five of them. But it's the fact that they're there.
Also - it's uber-snowing it Ottawa? Wow! We just had our first snow last night, and it was... the snow version of a drizzle.
