Steampunk Guinness Attempt Sat. 4 pm Westin Peachtree BR

Aug 25, 2010 17:45

Howdy All,
I haven't seen much regarding the Steampunk Guinness attempt at D*C, and the information on the page is still empty. (Though on the schedule)

Is this gonna happen? Are there any more details? Is there life on Mars?

I'm planning my packing and suitcase room is at a premium, so any information would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: Updated ( Read more... )

Hi! We're still not sure if Guinness is going to officially recognize us or not--and we are still going to make the attempt even if they recognize us or not. So please do pack up your goggles and come on out :)

Is there a place and time at DragonCon designated for a massive Steampunk photo or Meet-up? The big meet-up last year was on Friday night. I've heard rumors of this year's SP Photo and Meet-up being on Saturday this year...any logistical info anywhere?

Yes, the massive steampunk meetup/photoshoot (AKA, the Guinness World Record attempt) is on Saturday at 4 pm in the Westin Peachtree Ballroom. :)

Also wondering, are there going to be specific guidelines for the types of costumes allowed, as with the other Guinness attempts? I'll most likely be in 1818 inspired clothing. It certainly wouldn't be out of place, but it might be more period costume than steampunk...

also is it a sign of alcoholism that I am now craving a Guiness beer?

Victorian fantasy = H. Rider Haggard, etc.
Victorian sci-fi = Wells and Verne (and Twain)
Steampunk = term invented in 1987 (or thereabouts)

I don't code, though, so you could very well have been saying just exactly that.

Steampunk is explicitly the genre involving high technology based on steam power. 99.9% of "steampunk" costumes are just "gaslamp fantasy" or "victorian fantasy", and have nothing to do with steam in even a tangential way.
Go play Arcanum or Damnation, or watch Steamboy.
