A Horde of First World Problems...Well, Mostly

This is ridiculous! The water heater got swamped again last night, resulting in yet another cold shower. That is three times in two days. If I could jack the stupid thing up off the ground, I'd do it, but the water pipes are as high as they can go--I'd have to cut all of them and attempt to refit them. Is there any benefit to contemplating a sump and pump for the crawl space?

Do you have a sump pump? Or is there anyplace lower on your property that you can even pump water to?

There's a creek formed by a natural spring on our property. I'm not sure if I should redirect runoff into it or if that is even legal. Of course, the new house on the neighboring property's septic field probably feed that spring now, so whatever I do is likely to purify the water or at least dilute their contamination.

No. We do not have a sump pump.

I would HIGHLY recommend a sump pump. Although honestly, I'm not even sure who you would contact to see if it's legal to direct runoff to the stream. Is the stream the lowest point on your property? If so, all runoff is *already* going there, so I wouldn't think adding a sump pump would make any difference. I mean, you have GOT to do something about the water in your crawl space. It's just an all-around bad idea, plus putting out your pilot light on the water heater. Although, that alone would make me want to take a tomahawk to somebody.
