On the projector front - you might contact the people who are wanting to use them to see if THEY have one available. I know at least two people who own them so it's not unreasonable to think that some of the teachers might have them.

Not a bad idea. I guess I am too much of a do-it-yourself type, though. When I needed a slide projector for my presentations, I went out and bought a used one, but I don't expect everyone else to do that....
