Speaking briefly about this latest news, I do think that the Vohemaro politicians might want to reconsider their latest decision before public opinion gets worse.
Problem is, they've already lost all credibility as far as the people against this are concerned. Backtrack now, they'll turn their supporters against them as well. I suspect that may be what they think.
It would be the best thing they could do about this cock-up, but I don't know if I think they'll do it.
These politicians placed themselves within this grievously bad situation willingly! Now it is up to them to maintain order during the chaos they have stirred.

From my experience so far in politics, the Vohemaro Confederacy will only make things worse before striving to make things better. There latest bout of stupidity has made the people question if their government is fit to rule them and now they are looking at a possible 'rebellion' by their own people rather than just a war with Ivona now.
I suspect this will only lead to more strife considering that 'pride' shall be a main reason as to why the Confederacy will not overturn this ruling anytime soon.

Pride is good up to, but not including or surpassing, the point at which it becomes idiotic. They're treading on thin ice already, and won't have anyone to grab their hand when they fall through at this rate.
The way public opinion is going, not only of the Ivonian citizens who are almost guaranteed to disagree with any action taken by the government, but Vohemaro citizens as well, human and demi-human alike, there may be little their government can do to repair relations.
However, there is the possibility, I suppose, that this works into someone's larger scheme...

Unfortunately, I doubt the latter more and more.
