two steps forward, three steps back

The (more or less) complete list of things that constantly annoy me about my iPhone that are apparently not going to be fixed in version 4.0:
  • Ugly, modal, history-less, illegible alert dialogs.
    • In fact, with “local alerts” subbing in for any sort of actual IPC, this is going to get much, much worse.
  • No custom SMS/calendar/voicemail alert sounds.  ( ( Read more... )

the biz never sleeps

That's still a "coming soon" announcement -- there's nowhere I can actually buy the phone yet.

(Also, I have no idea who the heck "US Cellular" are, which makes me suspect I don't really want to give them my money.)

The baby continues to be tasty! OM NOM NOM NOM.

Softbuttons are a hard no-go limit for me. I nearly threw my Nexus One through a window the first time I accidentally brushed the 'home' button while trying to hit the spacebar. Never again.

No way to customize the lock or home screen contents.

I'm unclear what you mean by this.

The double failure for alert sounds is INSANE. what the hell, people.

The lack of custom alert sounds drives me batty. It may be worth jailbreaking for. Ditto the customized lock screen, and there needs to be a better way to deal with notifications.

A quick search through the app store shows off at least a few mail clients (mailroom, gmate, and others, i did searches for imal, mail and gmail), though i can't speak for much they do or don't suck.

Funny you mention no wifi-sync, someone just demo'd an app doing that recently. I'm curious how complete a sync it is, and whether or not i'll be improved.

Any word yet on whether Safari can find text on a page?

No sign of it in the OS 4 beta yet, looks like you're stuck with Opera if you want searching in the webpage.
