I REALLY want to believe this, especially given that to me, the wedding in 3x01 makes complete sense. JF's going to throw crap at M/M once they're hitched, but drawing it out seems silly...as does NOT taking advantage of the season premiere for maximum ratings.
My only questions would be why Isobel would be there (unless that's the Crawley House contingent -- GAH, can't EVEN!) and why they're not yet promoting the crap out of it. Hey, show -- remember how crazy the world went for the royal wedding? Capitalize on the Downton fever still sweeping this country by teasing us a bit... ;p
I personally wish the Wedding will happen in the season premiere. It makes sense ratings-wise, also I don't think Mary and Matthew should wait any longer. So much time has already been wasted. Then, of course, JF will throw something at them ...we wouldn't want a dramaless marriage...but I expect at least a happy episode!
Re: Isobel. Hm. Crawley House contingent awww imagine. But a bit OT: do we think Isobel will move out for some time to give M/M some initial intimacy? She could be roomies with Violet :P kidding. But really, I know Matthew would never ever want her to move out...BUT two women like that under the same roof...ouch.
Aww, see I'd LOVE to see Mary and Isobel interacting...I'm always a big fan of "characters who haven't interacted much" getting scenes together, and given those are the two most important women in Matthew's life (and have a lot of similarities, though are also extremely different), I think it'd be fascinating.
(I don't think JF much cares if M/M don't have initial privacy, since he's not showing that aspect of their marriage -- unfortunately ;p. It's really amazing how little Mary and Isobel have interacted up until now...briefly in ep 6 with Cora, and the CS with Matthew...their only scene by themselves was the tail end of ep 6 after Matthew escorted Sybil out. Need more Mary and Isobel!!! :)
So true. They interacted twice in episode 6, then briefly in episode5 when Isobel said "it's the very opposite of nothing" and then...the cemetery scene barely counts, I saw Isobel as part of the M/M audience. It's surprising. I had never thought about it really, but the two most important women in Matthew's life don't really have a relationship. Which is good for us because now they'll have to address their dynamics. How will they co-exist in Crawley House and in Matthew's life in general? Lavinia "sucked up" to Isobel, they seemed to get along well. But Mary is more similar to Isobel in a way, because they're both strong women (very different too, like Violet and Isobel, but both have strong personalities, an amazing willpower and are somehow bossy) so I think they will respect each others even if they'll butt heads. With poor Matthew caught in the middle eheh. Yay, now I'm so curious!

I want M/M to get married as soon as possible and have the best of the best of weddings, but I was thinking that 3x01 would have been preparations/welcoming grandmama Martha and 3x02 the wedding episode. I say that mainly because season 3 spans a short period and I thought they were taking things slowly! But as eolivet says, the have to take advantage of the season premiere to have the highest ratings! (I'm in the "Mary and Matthew's wedding will have more viewers that the Royal Wedding" CLUB lol)
PS: if M/M were already married in that pic, wouldn't they stand together, side by side? ( Are we to trust the daily fail speculations? :D )
Didn't they say they usually shoot two episodes at a time? Maybe this is a scene from 3x02. BUT as you said, they would be standing side by side. Instead Isobel is next to him and Mary a bit on the side. So the question is: why is Grandmama *leaving* Downton? Her lady's maid is with her, so she's going somewhere she plans to stay.
You're right they usually shoot two episodes at a time, so maybe they're on 3x02 already! Would 2 weeks of filming be enough to make 2 episodes? I wonder!
Two weeks for upstairs and then two separate weeks for downstairs I assume. Unless they crammed together SM's scenes so she could go back to US. Still assuming her arc is already over, which we don't know for sure. After all the hype, I'd have thought she'd stay for a bit longer...so things may not be as they seem. mmmmm
Even if Matthew and Mary get married in Season 3, what are they going to do for the rest of the season? Behave like a pair of love birds? That can get sickening. I only hope that the complexity and intelligence that made their relationship so interesting in Season 1, will return in Season 3. I could barely deal with the psuedo-romance novel aura that seemed to mar their relationship in Season 2.
Since happiness doesn't make a story, and that in a series you need some drama to get things going, I'm fairly sure they'll have to face many problems (and JF hinted at that). Be it as a couple against some external force (like Anna and Bates) or some deeper, emotional problem (ie: not having children? I don't know? Economical issues? Whatever) it isn't going to be a happy island. Which doesn't mean they should stop loving each others or break up - it would be stupid, after two seasons and 7 years of unrequited, complicated love. I don't think anyone would like it - wouldn't it feel like a betrayal? The on-and-off couples are not for period drama, and surely not for quality tv IMO, they're like a punch in the face

Why did you say that? What makes you think I wanted them to break up? I want their relationship to be interesting, not a romance novel cliche. That is what I was hinting.
I barely saw pseudo-romance in season 2, I saw personal growing and the good amount of angst. A bit of romance is deserved now, but I'm very sure that Fellowes won't make that last long and he will put some challenges for them soon.
