I REALLY want to believe this, especially given that to me, the wedding in 3x01 makes complete sense. JF's going to throw crap at M/M once they're hitched, but drawing it out seems silly...as does NOT taking advantage of the season premiere for maximum ratings.

My only questions would be why Isobel would be there (unless that's the Crawley House contingent -- GAH, can't EVEN!) and why they're not yet promoting the crap out of it. Hey, show -- remember how crazy the world went for the royal wedding? Capitalize on the Downton fever still sweeping this country by teasing us a bit... ;p

I personally wish the Wedding will happen in the season premiere. It makes sense ratings-wise, also I don't think Mary and Matthew should wait any longer. So much time has already been wasted. Then, of course, JF will throw something at them ...we wouldn't want a dramaless marriage...but I expect at least a happy episode!

Re: Isobel. Hm. Crawley House contingent awww imagine. But a bit OT: do we think Isobel will move out for some time to give M/M some initial intimacy? She could be roomies with Violet :P kidding. But really, I know Matthew would never ever want her to move out...BUT two women like that under the same roof...ouch.

Aww, see I'd LOVE to see Mary and Isobel interacting...I'm always a big fan of "characters who haven't interacted much" getting scenes together, and given those are the two most important women in Matthew's life (and have a lot of similarities, though are also extremely different), I think it'd be fascinating.

(I don't think JF much cares if M/M don't have initial privacy, since he's not showing that aspect of their marriage -- unfortunately ;p. It's really amazing how little Mary and Isobel have interacted up until now...briefly in ep 6 with Cora, and the CS with Matthew...their only scene by themselves was the tail end of ep 6 after Matthew escorted Sybil out. Need more Mary and Isobel!!! :)

So true. They interacted twice in episode 6, then briefly in episode5 when Isobel said "it's the very opposite of nothing" and then...the cemetery scene barely counts, I saw Isobel as part of the M/M audience. It's surprising. I had never thought about it really, but the two most important women in Matthew's life don't really have a relationship. Which is good for us because now they'll have to address their dynamics. How will they co-exist in Crawley House and in Matthew's life in general?
Lavinia "sucked up" to Isobel, they seemed to get along well. But Mary is more similar to Isobel in a way, because they're both strong women (very different too, like Violet and Isobel, but both have strong personalities, an amazing willpower and are somehow bossy) so I think they will respect each others even if they'll butt heads. With poor Matthew caught in the middle eheh.
Yay, now I'm so curious!

I've read a lot of people questioning that Isobel and Mary wouldn't get along once she and Matthew are married. This obviously if Isobel doesn't move somewhere else (I'm not sure how it works, but Robert surely owns a few more properties, and could offer another cottage to her)
They're both intelligent and strong willed women, but I actually think this is a reason why they WOULD get along quite well. I think there's more understanding between them than we can see, especially after Isobel has grown to appreciate Mary.

I think Isobel didn't like Mary at first - she surely felt more appreciative toward Sybil (they have been close - between politics and nursing, she probably felt a connection) and somehow understanding and sympathetic toward Edith. I think she started to get a glimpse of the real Mary in that late night conversation in 1x06 but then she was a bit...uhm...ill disposed toward her because she saw Matthew's pain. Mothers are protective like that ( ... )

Matthew is a very italian boy in that! :-)
I don't think he would easily let her move away, but if Isobel decides she wants to go, there is nothing that can stop her.

I think Isobel respects Mary more than she likes her, at least at first. She said that she had thought "Mary was made of stronger stuff" in S1, which to me indicates respect. In general, she and Mary seem to have a no-BS understanding when it comes to Matthew.

It will be interesting to see them interact (and Matthew try to keep the peace, if there is conflict.)

I completely agree. I think they have always respected each others, but then in season2 they're not close, but they have a mutual understanding because they shared a deep love for Matthew, especially after his injury (I think Isobel admired Mary's actions and reactions in this circumstance). And now their relationship will change, and the new interaction will be very interesting to me. I think they'll try to make the cohabitation work. Conflict, of course, could always arise but I expect Mary to dodge it with Violet's help like when Cora didn't want Downton to be a recovery home forever lol.
