"I've lost Lisa and I've lost Ben and now I've lost Sam. Don't make me lose you too.
As you know, Bob, I don't find this line equivalent to Dean's line to Sam in Salvation. I find it a fine, fine piece of emotional manipulation in service to getting Castiel to come down out of his freaky god tower, which actually echoes Sam to Dean in Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things (paraphrasing, because I'm too lazy to go get the DVD): "I've lost Jess. We lost Dad. Now I'm gonna lose you too?" I don't think that one equates. But I love the other two. *g*
I agree your quote is a closer resonance than the one I picked -- the one I picked happened to sproing in my my head.
It's true Dean was deliberately trying to talk Castiel down, and the Dean-Sam exchange in Salvation was purely instinct and impulse. So in that sense they are different. But the core of hurt and the things Dean fears and the underlying reasons he said it are the same to me. Dean was trying to keep Sam from running head-first into a situation that could get him killed, because he feared losing him. Here Dean's more self-aware and doing it purposefully but it is emotionally parallel.
It was a close thing! This all could've been angry tears and deleting eps of S6 and me trying to break up with the show for the 13th time. I feel so, so sad for my fellow Castiel peeps. They are very sad. D: I'm all GUISE GUISE IT WILL BE OKAY SEE LOOK I HAVE TEXTUAL EVIDENCE!
MAYBE I HAVE LOST MY MIND BUT OMG. This hit my buttons right. I am good at least until 7x01 actually airs -- I am actually very excited for S7 and yet it could be the end of my glee.
(Also -- you are getting the schmoop thing we discussed).
The show knows exactly what it's doing there. Whatever the outcome, I think we are meant to believe Castiel has become part of their family unit. He is definitely doing things that are very Winchesteresque.

He's one of them!!! He's family no matter what Godstiel says, and I'm pretty sure Dean isn't going to give up.
Throwbacks at least is something that show does well consistently. BUT OH GOD THE FEELLLINGSSSS!!!!
