Vanity polling - MG or HYD?

Jun 20, 2007 23:29

I decided I'd have to watch one of the drama versions for the manga Hana Yori Dango as both versions seem so friggin' popular- call it my duty as a dorama fan, or just out of extreme curiosity to know some version of this story. I thought I'd post a poll in my LJ but then I figured, wider audience, why not here ( Read more... )

i'd go for meteor garden since that's what started my asian series addiction (plus vic zhou - the biggest factor :D)

i liked hanadan, the only problem was oguri shun. i can't help it, i love the character hanazawa rui/hua ze lei and i have this tendency to compare oguri to vic (this was the first time i saw shun in a drama). loved hyd2 though (since i saw shun in other dramas already and was actually starting to accept him).

If nothing else I think I'll enjoy Oguri Shun as Sano in the upcoming Hana Kimi. But yeah, Vic is uber. :D

I think I get what you mean. You're saying jdrama is easier to follow once you know the manga and the characters from it? And if one doesn't know the manga, things might move too fast for them etc? I personally don't know the manga at all so I guess it's better to get to know the characters properly in the Meteor Garden.

I agree with what she said.

Hanadan worked well enough for me (though I prefer MG) but that was because at that point I read the manga, watched the anime and MG. If I came to the story 'cold,' I think it would have been too 'greatest hits' for me and the lack of development between plot points would have really grated (as it is, I could fill everything else in from other stuff).

I do agree that people in MG seemed more real than in Hanadan and the guys hotter (at least as compared to Hanadan 1, they got way hotter in 2).

OTOH, Hanadan has much better production values and better acting (MG was the first role for all the guys in the Taiwanese F4).

I voted for the fourth option! Because that was the order that i watched mainly because MG was HUGE it was basically the one that started the whole idol- teen dramas wave. And it'll always hold a special place in my heart <3 And its really a legend. BUT NOT THE 2ND THO ( ... )

I've seen Mars, loved Vic & Barbie in it. :D

A friend whose tastes generally fit mine pretty much perfectly likes Matsujun.. So yeah, I think I'll definitely watch HYD at some point. Just ...not so soon. Heh.

MG 2 - don't worry, I'm not touching it with a ten-foot pole.

I think, from seeing the fact that you tend to gravitate towards tw-dramas (at least IMO, LOL), you would enjoy Meteor Garden :) I adored it, though yes, it WAS cheesy in some parts. But Jerry Yan is unbelievably hot and Barbie -- do I need to say more? OTP rocks, yo! ^^

Yeah, I've only watched a couple of jdramas in full and hardly begun any others. So it's that I don't really prefer them but I also lack in experience.. Most jdramas just don't appeal, I guess. And no, no need to say more. :)

For me, this is like choosing between whether I want to drink a glass of sand or a glass of salt. Hm . .

Heh. Out of curiosity, what type of dramas do you personally enjoy?

Sorry for the late response, I just got back from space. ;) I'm pretty much open to any jdrama, except maybe romantic comedy and anything with too many pretty boys. I'll probably be skipping Hana Kimi. ;)
