Vanity polling - MG or HYD?
I decided I'd have to watch one of the drama versions for the manga Hana Yori Dango as both versions seem so friggin' popular- call it my duty as a dorama fan, or just out of extreme curiosity to know some version of this story. I thought I'd post a poll in my LJ but then I figured, wider audience, why not here.
Before you vote, please vote what you'd think I'd enjoy more, not what you personally prefer (though the two can obvious be the same). I'm personally biased towards twdrama (they're cheesy and unpolished but still win me over ♥), though I admittedly lack experience in jdramas overall. Example - I've not seen any of the stars of HYD in anything. However, the twdrama female lead, Barbie Hsu, I'm a big fan of in Mars and Corner With Love. This makes me slightly bent towards the twdrama version right now. In general I'm fond of light comedic dramas (my top three's My Girl, Hana Kimi tw & Nodame Cantabile) though I can and do put up with angst and am perfectly willing to do that.
Not to say I don't have positive feelings about HYD. A friend of mine whose taste is often very close to mine just bought it on DVD because she liked it so much. Plus based on pictures, Inoue Mao is one of the cutest Asian girls ever. :)
I know MG has a crappy sequel and HYD 2 is nearly universally adored (though one of my friends called it "frustration in drama format"), but I'm not even considering those at the this moment. I'll give MG 2 a miss no matter what and if I end up watching HYD and like it, I'll consider the sequel.
