Vanity polling - MG or HYD?

Jun 20, 2007 23:29

I decided I'd have to watch one of the drama versions for the manga Hana Yori Dango as both versions seem so friggin' popular- call it my duty as a dorama fan, or just out of extreme curiosity to know some version of this story. I thought I'd post a poll in my LJ but then I figured, wider audience, why not here ( Read more... )

I watched MG first and HYD (both seasons) after that and in the end came to prefer HYD, but I think you should start with MG. MG was before Mars, btw, and I think it was among the first acting jobs for most of the leads. You can notice a marked performance in at least Vic's acting in Mars, especially since Vic and Barbie's roles were completely opposite of what they are in MG.

And while watching MG, be sure not to miss appearance of a Koff tram on the background in a couple of scenes... Made me go totally O_o WTF?! when I first spotted it :D.

KOFF TRAM is reason enough to watch any friggin' drama. Finnish product placement should become a trend in twdrama. I look forward to seeing Joe Cheng munch on HK sausages in ISWAK 2. Or Vic Zhou drinking Jaffa in his upcoming cooking drama. Sweet.

IIRC, they also use Nokia phones, but that's much more common. A KOFF TRAM definitely isn't :D. I just checked my old posts on MG, and it appears in episode 7 of the 19/20 episode version (where the episodes are about an hour, as opposed to the 27 ep version where they are about 45 mins long).

Ooh, I wonder which version is on Dailymotion/Youtube/CR, where I'll probably end up watching.

MG might be a better first choice followed with HYD, because they both satisfy different needs!

MG basically was filmed as bit of a gamble i think, and can be considered to be the grand-daddy of all the idol twdramas that are popular nowadays. While it is cheesy, i still think that because MG is set in university rather than high school, the emotions are a little more convincing...i just can't get my head round the angst exhbited by high school kids in hyd sometimes!

I guess that can be blamed on the original manga. Mangas can be so ridiculous at times. :D Lovable but still ridiculous.

I noticed the producer lady of MG has produced about a zillion of other twdramas, including Corner With Love, Mars, Devil Beside You... So yeah, understandable how it's a trend-starter.

Hana Yori Dango is a very enjoyable series with classy camerawork and a lead who was much funnier than I expected him to be. It also has Matsuda Shota in it, which is a selling point all by itself!

Yeah, despite my lack of interest in JE boys, MatsuJun seems like an okay one. :)

ooohhhh, reading all these messages has only served to make me nostalgic for MG. keeping in mind that i've still yet to watch damo and kurosagi, i think i'll go and do an MG rewatch first!

MG was nice, but very frustrating for me(much as I like 2 of the guys in it) whereas i'm of the variety that universally adores HYD. HYD is worth watching just for Oguri Shun as Hanizawa Rui...everything else, great as it is, is just icing on the cake.

Hee, your Oguri Shun fangirlism. :D Very well, will take this into consideration.

well, as much as I love Oguri Shun in Gokusen, HYD is what made me a fangirl.
