Snow...

As most people have noticed by now, (Unless of course you have been under a rock for the last week.)the northeast coast has been dealing with a major snowstorm for the last several hours. It seems the storm has slowed down and we are getting more snow than originally anticipated. The original prediction was 8 to 10 inches here in the Boston area ( Read more... )

We went grocery shopping Friday-- we would have anyway, since we were downtown for my appointments. EVERYWHERE we went, people were in a SNOW PANIC!! OH MY GOODNESS, THE LATEST TOTALS ARE GOING UP UP UP!!!! Of course, this is Philadelphia, where it's not AS common to have snow.
We made sure we had a space on our street, just in case the baby decided to arrive during the storm. And I made sure Joe shoveled the car COMPLETELY today-- we don't always do that after a storm, since we usually use public transportation or walk, and we just wait for it to melt, but in my condition, we are not waiting for it to melt!

Now I think I'm going to see if I have hot chocolate in the kitchen, and Joe's going sledding!

You should go sledding too! It might put you into labor and get it over sooner. I can imagine the waiting must be getting frustrating.

Other than doing my grocery shopping yesterday instead of today, and making sure the folks in Boston I was planning to see today knew I probably wasn't showing up, not a heck of alot. The cars are in the garage, the snow blower is tuned, and the shovels are where they need to be to keep the porch clear. Oh, and I did bring in wood, so I could keep my office warm without braving the snow today. The wind it taking alot of my warmth away, though.
The dogs are loving this ;-)

Isn't it great watching dogs in the snow, they just enjoy it so thoroughly. But then they get those little dingle berry snow balls stuck to their bellies. It's so cute.

We actually just got back from the grocery store, we called to make sure they were open andwent out. Roads are slippery but passable.
It's still snowing pretty heavily here.

I made certain that there was a clear path to my Pennsic chests. They contain everything I need to live comfortably without power in the way of light, power converters and my battery backup system for the laptop.

I also:
Filled the propane tank on the grill.
Picked up the few perishable items I might want if supply was disturbed.
Picked up extra diapers for my neice.
Packed in a two day of wood for the fireplace so it stays dry.
Picked up a large supply of chinese food, as it is a wonderful thing to eat chinese leftovers while watching the blizzard while inside a snug house.

I did go to Stop & Shop yesterday afternoon, but only because I hadn't had a chance to go earlier in the week. It seemed like a typical Saturday--there was plenty of milk & bread, and the lines weren't terribly long.

I did get some cupcakes to help with the cabin fever, and we've been keeping the wood stove going, in case we lose power (even the pellet stove needs electricity). But there's no sign of that. Mark shoveled during a break in the weather, but mostly it's been a pajama day--partially because we've all been sick.

My parents have a pellet stove, they love it. But they also have a gas generator if the power goes out, as it often does with any storm.

Sorry to hear everyone is not feeling well. I'm sure the kids will feel much better if they find out that tomorrow is a snow day and they get off school! :)

No special preparation here. We took mental stock of the available food, decided we had enough, and so didin't go shopping. The cars are parked in the driveway, as per usual. The only thing I did different was to wedge some plastic wrap in place of my missing driver's side window's weatherstripping. I probably should have lifted the windshield wipers, but I didn't. Oh well.

If I'm lucky, my office will be closed tomorrow!
