Women were granted the right to vote in the United States in 1920 after 100 years of advocating for it.

The Fifteenth Amendment gave People of color, men only, the right to vote in 1870, women had to wait until 1920. The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account ( Read more... )

I am very sad to report that Marty Gear, Vampire Extraordinaire, Masquerade Emcee for many, many, Arisia Masquerades, Director of The Balticon Masquerade, passed away sometime last night. This is a huge loss for costume fandom.

Details are forthcoming regarding services etc.

Avoid the Porter Square T station this afternoon if you can. A man was killed by a train and the station is closed down, they are busing people around the station. I suspect the investigation will drag into the evening commute.
