Occupy Melbourne..

So the dirty, filthy hippies who were stinking up Melbourne's City Square have finally been..err..evicted..

Apparently the Lord Mayor asked them to leave by 0900. They chose not to. And riot police were called in and kicked them out at 1400. Sounds pretty fair to me.
I wasn't in the city today, so I didn't witness the supposed "police brutality" - ( Read more... )

I was wondering what your thoughts were regarding what has been going on in Melbourne. Guess I know now. ;c)

I probably sound like an opinionated ass in this post...but it pisses me off when people who don't really have much to bitch about bitch anyway.

As a nation, I think Australia is pretty bloody lucky.
Sure, our two major political parties are run by fucktards (although our current PM Julia "The Ginja Ninja" Gillard is a much better option than Tony "The Mad Monk" Abbott - but I digress), but all in all we have it pretty good.
We're a laid back nation, we have a great (allbeit under-resourced) health care system, our welfare system is pretty good, hell, even our correctional/justice system works mostly well ( ... )

I had an articulate, thoughtful take on the whole Occupy movement, particularly the differences between the US occupations and those happening around the rest of the world. The longer I waited to write this, the less articulate and thoughtful I felt like being because, well, it all seems to be going to shit now. Which is a shame, really ( ... )

the thing that bugged me the most about the protest was that they kept saying they represent the 99%. uhh... no, you don't. they certainly don't speak for me. besides, that figure is talking about the financial situation in america which is vastly different from the financial situation here. the majority here get paid a decent wage and we have social welfare to cover those who don't, unlike america. i was pointed out to me that if i was in america and earning my current (meh) wage, i'd technically be part of the 1% (as would the majority of people earning a wage in australia ( ... )

that bugs me too.
even this morning someone said to me "you're one of the 99% Dannii"...ummm...no i'm not. i'm far from it.
i wasn't offended by the person saying that or thinking that i was part of the 99%...i was offended because the person obviously didn't know just how bad the 99% have it.

last year bec found some website somewhere and we plugged in our combined yearly income for that year and we were in the top 10% globally - which is frightening. 2010 was an excellent year for us financially - and the tax i paid alone most likely paid someone's entire wage. i'm far from rich - but i go without very little and i'm extremely grateful for that. i know that i am lucky - which is why i get so annoyed when other lucky people (basically anyone who isn't living on or below the poverty line) bitch about how bad they have it ( ... )
