1) The Tigers traded Prince Fielder. (I know, you thought I was done talking about baseball for the year). I’m fucking pissed. He is the best first baseman in the goddamn league and yeah, his hitting dropped off a little last season but that’s like saying ‘oh a shark lost a tooth’ but he’s still a goddamn shark! We got Ian Kinsler from Texas

omg i know what you mean about baseball they just traded a great player to the yankees, now we have to hate him so sad.
I'd heard about that! I just console myself with the fact that we didn't lose anyone to those fucking Yanks, man. No matter any rivalries between teams, at least we all hate the Yankees.
i hope grandpa not in pain. i think that's what parent/grandparents do tell you not to worry or visit, they don't want to be a burden. mine do the same, i do the same to my kids lol.
My sister saw Grandpa earlier this week and says he seems to be doing really well, relatively speaking for Grandpa, but still, that sounds good.
Oh, I know for sure Grandma says these things because she doesn't want to be a burden, but it never occurs to her that we enjoy our visits with her. We enjoyed going to visit her even as kids and sitting at her table chatting away with her. For some reason she thinks we now have better things to do, but she's my Grandma, I love visits with her!

He surprisingly seems to be doing really well since the fall - or as well as he ever is, but still, 'not worse' is something!

My grandma IS awesome, thank you! When I was a kid, she always use to tell me to 'keep an eye out for a cute doctor for her' and my mother says as a consequence I took to asking doctors if they were married or not. "For my grandma," I would say, at like the age of four. (it apparently didn't occur to me that Granbdma was married to Grandpa though!)

Also I hear you on family, mine's smaller but during Thanksgiving at my brother's, there was brother, his wife, her parents, two nieces, cousin of theirs, my sister, me and my parents and then later a couple that's friends of ours plus their three kids. By the time it was all done, I was happy for quiet, I'm all for my brother doing lots of the cooking and holiday planning but breaks are nice.

Thanks, babe. He actually seems to have bounced back pretty well from the fall, but somedays I'm not sure that's a good thing. He's 94 - how much more can his body take, you know? Still, he isn't in pain from the shoulder and I will take that as a blessing.
Also I hear you on family,
Yep. I love my family, but I prefer smaller doses of people and smaller doses of time! (we're Irish Catholic on that side though - we don't know the meaning of the word 'smaller') Your family gathering sounds like it was full-up, but you got to see your nieces at least! (that's the one thing I really enjoy about these gatherings, is seeing all the kids!)

Yeah, there's no way you can NOT visit. I really hope that your grandpa can at least maintain where he is, if that's possible; hopefully he'll at least make it through the holidays with you.
Argh, that's a LOT of people for a LONG time. We don't party more than about three hours at a pop these days....

IT WAS DUMB, THANK YOU! His counterpart at third base has been very sad all over the news outlets about it - They broke up the boys, man!

Grandpa seems to be doing pretty well since the fall, all things considered, and I am grateful we didn't lose him now, so close to the holidays. But at 94, his body has been fighting long enough, you know.
I love visits with Grandma - Idk why she can't understand that of all of the crazy shit we have to get done every week, visiting her is one we actually look forward too.

He just might, as you said a comment or three ago, be ready to go. But that doesn't make it any easier for the people left behind! Maybe you can make Grandma understand how much you love visiting her.
Wow, short party! With at least some good parts despite feeling bad, so yay on that.

Of course, I have also become very cynical with things like that. For example, when other women say "honey", "sweetie" or anything that SHOULD be construed as nice, I cringe because I've been called those endearments too many times by those who felt they were superior to me.

That would be my mom. My Grandma actually just thinks she is a burden and that we have more important things to do with our young lives than sit around with an old woman, but fuck that, she's our Grandma! My mom is the one that says the opposite of what she wants, so she can be all 'woe is me' about it all.

Word on that! I am 35 and often get mistaken for 17. And I am physically disabled which people just look at me and assume mentally disabled and I get 'honey-ed' and 'sweetie-ed' all the time and it is condescending as all get out and I loathe it! I totally feel you on that one.
