This whole Havaianas craze

Dec 01, 2006 21:17

I am mystified at the idea of paying a thousand pesos for a pair of tsinelas - even more for the rare ones! One mom from PEx is asking me to buy some for her from eBay UK, and the total cost for two pairs of slippers, including shipping to Sweden is about 40 GBP (about 4,000 PHP). And I saw a pair with Swarovski crystals, going for the mind- ( Read more... )

We share the same thoughts on that. They look like normal rubber slippers for me. :/ My mom bought me imitations from Divisoria! :D

I remember enchantress1 raving about how comfy her new white Havs were a couple of years back, but when I heard how much they cost medyo nanluwa mata ko :D and I thought the craze would never last because they were just too expensive. But it looks like it's only intensifying. You know something's gotten big when there are Divisoria versions already, hehe.

Hahahaha. I know. I have 2 pairs of the Swarovski ones - 1 in white and another one in dark brown. I got fascinated by the bling, I guess. It hyponitized me to buy not just 1 pair, but 2! :p

Seriously, if you take out the status given by fashionistas that it's the IT flipflops, like you can go to a semi-fancy resto in it and it'd still be fine, it's really no different from the flipflops sold at Old Navy or wherever.

So I guess I'm buying collecting Havaianas for the status and its the one slippers I can wear to semi-fancy restos. :)) My mom can't see the difference though. She said I look like a homeless person sometimes. When I told her that I'm probably the only hobo wearing $110 pair of slippers, I got in trouble for it pa tuloy. Hahaha!

Well that actually makes sense, slippers are comfy and I didn't know they allowed Havaianas in places where slippers aren't usually welcome.

If your mom was guilty of wearing ripped jeans during the '80s, bring that up the next time she criticizes your Havaianas :D

There are some bar/restos in NY that actually specify in their dress code: upscale designer clothing only. :)) I think I got away with wearing slippers, albeit Havaianas, coz I can look like a snotty bitch when I want to. Hahaha!

Eghh, I'm surrounded by a Havaianas-wearing crowd every time I go to Arreneyow, and I'm still not getting it. D: If they're really that comfy and durable, maybe I can forgive them for having one pair, but the thing is, people actually own several pairs liekomg. @___@

... plus my parents don't want me to wear tsinelas outside, so I'm safe. Hahaha XD.

Hmm, oo nga noh, I wonder if they allow Havaianas in DLSU. Dati bawal ang tsinelas but I can totally see some people protesting that the rule shouldn't apply to Havaianas because duh, they're not ordinary tsinelas! LOL

Not sure about that myself. The School of Management (in Ateneo) enforces a dress code on their students though (because they're supposed to look business-like, I guess? :D), and there's an issue about the admin wanting to make the dress code university-wide. XD

I searched on this topic before, and found this and this. You might want to check them out haha XD.

Di ko nga rin maintindihan eh. I mean, I love flipflops. Pero ang hello ah! Cheapest Havaianas go for P900 ata here. I can imagine paying P900 for a nice dressy pair of sandals. Cheap pa nga yun eh. Pero P900 for flipflops?! No way! Lalo na't alam kong may mga mabibilhan ako ng as low as P50 dito sa Pinas.

Salamat.

cinephile's reply is actually a valid explanation IMHO, if you love flipflops but can't wear them in most places you go to, and Havs are accepted, why not buy a couple pairs? Kaya lang kung accepted din naman ang Havanas e di yun na lang. :P

nah. Alaska is more 3rd world than any 3rd world country you've ever been to. Plus, I don't think Havaianas are compatible with Alaska weather. :P
