I don't exactly ship it. But I do think Mickey works better for Martha than Tom Milligan. And I'm glad she got to find happiness with someone who'd traveled with the Doctor and who understood.

Thanks to the following story, I ship Martha Jones/Mickey Smith/Tom Milligan.

If My Heart Was a House You’d Be Home by Sunnysea

Their marriage may not be what one expects on Earth; they've seen other planets, but Earth is their home and they make their marriage of three work. (Prompt: Tom Milligan/Martha Jones/Mickey Smith, their marriage is legally binding on at least fifty planets- just not the one they happen to live on)

It's a bit "quick, let's pair everyone off so there's a happy ending!" They'd probably work well together if there was effort put into it though. Wasn't Martha actually married to Tom in Torchwood? Eh, I don't mind them breaking up, he always seemed a bit like an unneccessary consolation prize anyway.

Anyway, I reckon they'd treat each other well and they're both very pretty people. Relationships have been formed on less. By DW standards they're pretty damn functional, since neither has ever killed the other, neither one is evil, and nobody involved is half-Donna.

No, Martha was never married to Tom. She was engaged. I so very agree with you that Tom was an unnecessary consolation prize. Now if Ellis had been avialable--imagine the hotness factor on Torchwood with Tom, Mickey, Jack, Ianto on set!--I wouldn't have minded as much, as long as we were treated to some steamy love scenes. I frankly wouldn't mind a couple of steamy love scenes with Mickey and Martha on Torchwood.

She was on a honeymoon in some Torchwood ep, I think? But they never actually said who her husband was then so maybe it was Mickey. I am going to assume it was.

Children of Earth. Martha isn't available--but Mickey left with Martha and Tom, and no one asked where he was. But depending on what you consider canon; the follow up in the Doctor Who Comic more or less suggest that 1) She had left UNIT under tense circumstances; 2) She had just returned from her honeymoon and I think someone refers to her as Mrs. Jones 3.) She and the Doctor were a bit snippy with each other because the Doctor blamed her because UNIt didn't get rid of the Osterhagan project and had become more military than usual. She rescued him anyway so he could save the day, but she feels he doesn't trust her anymore--and hopefully he feels guilty. They see each other again in the comics after he saves her and Mickey's lives.

How do you feel about the marriage of Mickey and Martha, as canonized in The End of Time? I thought they looked perfectly adorable and loving--and hot, very hot. I don't know if it was necessary to have Martha armed and in Fan-fiction I always write that she armed herself after she discovered UNIT had sent Mickey after the Sontaran with backup, but maybe Davies wanted to establish that both characters had made a clean break with the Doctor, Torchwood, UNIT and were making it up as they go. But other than that-- I liked the scene far more than I believed I would have when I heard the rumors, principally because Mickey and Martha were in the field working together as opposed to a domestic, passive scene. I wanted more of their joint adventures.
Why do you think Russell T. Davies decided that their characters should get together, and what are some reasons that Mickey and Martha would fall in love that have nothing to do with past relationships with the Doctor and Rose? Davies said something about wanting to keep the Smith and ( ... )

I guess I ship it. I can see them getting along well enough and they do look cute together, I don't know.

My main problem with the pairing, and why I don't ship it that strongly, is mostly because the writers treated it as a kind of Cliff's Note in End of Time: it very much felt like they were going, "Oh by the way, Martha and Mickey are married now, guys!" and it just felt a little out of nowhere.

But I can see why they would get together and I do think they'd be a good couple.

Was it really completely out of no where? They did leave the Tardis together, Mickey had his arm around Martha and it was suggested that they would work together. I just wonder if it was that completely out of left field or did we fans just missed a hint or saw what we wanted to see. I can freely admit that it didn't occur to me, because I was Martha/Jack shipper and all the cuddling and care between Jack and Martha was encouraging.

Maybe out of nowhere isn't the best way to describe it, but it was still very sudden to me mostly because prior to End of Time they were only in one episode together and Martha had been engaged at the time they met.

I just wish we could have seen some more of them together to build it up a little.

I agree. I would have loved to watch the courtship which would have been very interesting as it would have been on Torchwood. Unfortunately Freema and Noel's schedules clashed. They are showing Centurian on television this month, which is what Noel was busy doing. It's good but blood and grusome in spots. Noel reall beefed up for the part.
