Hell yes on Craig Roberts - he was in Young Dracula when he was younger in what was essentially the 'companion' role (enthusiastic human encountering supernatural world) and I think he'd be excellent.
Also I am dying to see Canton again. Wouldn't be surprised if it happens - the Doctor said 'until next time' (as I recall) so I assume they'd be interesting in having him back and it's just a matter of actor availability.
If we got Canton, would we get his boyfriend/not-husband-only-thanks-to-stupid-Nixon, as well? That could be cool. I think they're going to want to keep at least one woman on board, as well, so I'm not sure they'd make him a full-time companion. Or they could just have a four man TARDIS crew. It's not like it hasn't been done before.
I think my preference for Canton would be recurring character rather than companion anyway (he seems too down to earth to be a long-term companion), so I'd love to see the Doctor go visit him and meet his boyfriend. Healthy inter-racial gay couple on Doctor Who? Yes plz.
I seriously want to see Iwan Rheon in Doctor Who. Whether it's as the Doctor, a companion or a guest star I don't mind, but please give him something Moffat!
CANTON yessss - i'd like to think that we'll be seeing him again, but it's probably just a matter of mark sheppard's availability since he's got that habit of KICKING ASS in every show possible
douglas booth!!! (cheekbone competitions) and as i've mentioned in the other post RICHARD MADDEN but i've come to the point of realisation that he probably doesn't exist and is a mass hallucination since there's like NOTHING about him/projects he's working on/new photos/etc out there
someone who instantly popped into my mind was TOBY REGBO (who you might not remember as young dumbledore) who i think is lovely and needs to be in more things so i can enjoy his face & acting skills
Noel Fielding in an ep would be quite awesome. :D Even if it's a 'blink and you'll miss it' cameo, although something a little bigger would be preferable - ooh, now I'm hoping he'll actually be on it at some point XD
Craig Roberts would be AMAZING as a companion. He does troubled, lonely and frustrated very well- just the kind of character that the Doctor would be moved to help. Also adding Bryan Dick, just because he's completely adorable and I always want to see more of him onscreen. He's best-known for period roles- as Ernie Wise is the BBC's 'Eric and Ernie', and as a dead 1940s pilot in 'Being Human'. I'd love a companion from the 1950s or thereabouts- all stiff-upper-lip and self-reliance.
Oh man, I'd love to see a 1950s-ish male companion bouncing off a 21st century female companion. You could play off the dymanic of 60s Doctor Who pretty nicely.
ETA: Further to that, because this kept coming up in the previosu post: a 1950s male companion bouncing off a 21st century lesbian companion. :D
Oh, and I just thought of another, slightly older actor who's really rather wonderful; Rory Kinnear. You might have seen him alongside Mark Gatiss in 'First Men on the Moon'. He's very good at maintaining a look of crumbling sanity as the rest of the world goes to hell in a handbasket.
