OK, so now we know. Well, we know some things, but there's still so much more.

This is the place to share your theories, speculate on what might happen next, and try and solve the clues that Moff has been laying since River first appeared. He's a tricksy one, that Moffat, so literally anything might come to pass.

Please don't share actual spoilers ( Read more... )

Soooo~

River is the little girl in the astronaut suit. Kidnapped as a baby, Melody grows up being trained/brainwashed as a weapon to kill the Doctor (as intended by eyepatch lady), so that's what she does in The Impossible Astronaut. (maybe her memory was later compromised and that's why River doesn't remember doing it)

River said in the Flesh&Stone two-parter that she got imprisoned because she killed someone (and there was a lot of speculation that it's the Doctor whom she possibly killed).

...so, how about she kills the Doctor as a kid in the spacesuit (and sees her mum Amy in the orphanage), then can either flee or gets imprisoned right away for having killed him.
Either way, I don't think Amy and Rory will have much opportunity to raise her.

However the Doctor survives will be another mind-churning time-twist I'm sure. XD

Now I think the good man River kills is DEFINITELY Rory. Except maybe time can be rewritten? It wouldn't be the first time for Rory!

I started thinking that too, after the way she was looking at Rory when he greeted her towards the beginning of the episode. And if she was raised to be a weapon against the Doctor I can't imagine she would honestly consider him the best man she ever knew - and really that sounds more like a daughter describing her father and aaaaah I don't want Rory to die. ;___;

This is what I've been thinking all day. This was a little anticlimactic, especially since half the fandom seems to have suspected for a while now.

We've got six episodes left, there's no way he doesn't have more tricks up his sleeve. I think shit's only about to get more real in the fall. There's probably something way more mindfucky waiting for us.

I think there must be more to River's identity. Rewatching now, the way he reacts to her seems over the top for just "YOU'RE AMY'S BABY, TEEHEE" so I think there must be something else about her relationship with the Doctor.
And I think Moff might have hinted that in this tweet:

He's totally teasing there. Like, yes we technically know who she is now, but that wasn't really the kind of thing we were looking for.

I'm sure that the fall episodes will bring something bigger and less predictable. There is still so much unanswered and I think we're still in for much crazier stuff.

So, I'm pretty sure that the Madam Kovarian that we saw for most of the episode was ALSO a flesh avatar. She got baby Melody and got the hell out of Dodge before everything went to hell.

River died to ensure she was born.

She died instead of the Doctor in the first ever episode she appeared in.

If the doctor had died, Amy and Rory would never have met him, meaning that she would not have been conceived in the Tardis, meaning that she wouldn’t have been looked after by the doctor, meaning that she wouldn’t have shot the doctor, meaning she wouldn’t have got shot by her own mother, meaning she wouldn’t have regenerated, meaning none of this would have happened.

The woman is a walking paradox. She essentially dies to ensure her own creation.

Moffat. You fucking genius.
