this is still one of my fav stories of new who because i loved Reinette so much. haha Rose, no he doesn't just like chavs. :P Looking back, her and Mickey are a bit annoying in this. I sitll really enjoy it though and the clockwork droids were cool. Obviously, Moffett recycled his idea of meeting a character as a little girl and then going to far forwards to time when the doctor meets her again....
This story... oh, I cried. I tried really hard to not let it show, but I did. Also, I realise now that it has ruined me for Regency romances, because every time I read a character bagging out Mme de Pompadour for being common, my brain immediately responds, "Nooo, MdP is made of awesome! I know this because of my Doctor Who learnings!" Moral: Doctor Who > actual history.
this is one of my favourite episodes, even if the portrayal of Madame de Pompadour makes me slightly angry [the real Madame de Pompadour was not a nice person]. it was funny and i thought, scarier than the Empty Child/the Doctor Dances [the part where the robot smacks the Doctor from underneath the bed? Gets me EVERY TIME and their masks are so creepy and ugh]
The love story was a bit strange [it was years and years for her, but only a few hours for him, or a few days at most, right? although, he did seem to have a lot of prior knowledge about her life, so maybe he already had a lot of respect for her] but...it's Moffat, he needs love stories everywhere, and I forgive him. <3

You know, watching this for the first time AFTER S5, you start thinking that Moffat really does recycle his own ideas over and over again. Because Reinette meets him as a little girl, as does Amelia (and perhaps River, who knows), and then again when they're both older. BUT as he himself says, it seems that on a show that is about time-travelling, there's not a crazy amount of timey-wimeyness, as much as there could be

Well, according to a very devoted fan of his that I was debating this with on Twitter, apparently so. I don't see it myself.
And thanks! :D And it's not just the wimmins and humans, Eleven's been bromancing Silurians. ;) The Doctor just falls in love with everyone who clicks with his own sensibilities. ♥
I loved that episode. I loved Reinette, and the drunken Doctor (that tie around his head makes me giggle every time *gg*), I liked the clockwork droids, and it's pre-Revolutionary France, so I'm happy ^^
And I love the fact that the horse is called Arthur ;)

One quote I have to add, though:
Mickey: What's a horse doing on a space ship?
The Doctor: Mickey, what's pre-Revolutionary France doing on a spaceship? Have some perspective.

I fail to believe that anything could be OOC for the Doctor. *nods*

and flirting with evil fish-women-vampire-thingies.
Maybe this is why River needs a Doctor-sized cage or whatever she was referring to in TBB.
