I wish I had an evil twin

*Teru thought this was the Flight Room. He even heard the giant fan whirring inside. But when he enters - suddenly there are two of him, apparently identical. One of them turns and looks apprehensively at the other, who rolls his eyes.*

Yes, we still look the same. I thought we were over the whole 'what if I'm secretly evil' thing?

...sorry. I'm ( Read more... )

When Near stepped into the room, he knew it wasn’t where he intended to be. He meant to find the kitchen to grab a snack and rest a little. Instead, he was lured into the room with the dominating thought that it would be a safe place. He was wrong.

Suddenly, there were two. On the right there was a dirt-covered, scrawny version of himself. Not quite the way he looked when he first arrived; it was the image of himself that he imagined when he had no choice but to think of his situation. Lying on the floor, hands and feet tied behind his back, with every white part of his body now tainted with brown. The wretched figure breathed heavily, staring at the floor with a tired and desperate expression.

"We’re going to die," he said in a gruff, dry, voice. It was chilling to hear, leaving a terrible sound ringing in the air. "This respite won’t last forever."

"We won’t," said a voice from the left. In contrast to the one on the ground, this one was standing with his arms and feet bound. He was clean and full, still white and pure ( ... )

We don't know about those. What would help? ... and fuck, you're not fighting half as bad as most the people I've seen in this room. I mean, actually throwing punches and shit. Fucking mental. *He shakes his head.* Do you mind if I light up?

I mind. We're giving up that shit. *To Near,* They exist. I'm mostly good with integrating runic systems into programming, but - yeah, it exists. We're good at it.

"How extreme we are fighting each other isn't the issue. Our disagreements have caused inaction as a whole."

Not to mention that his calmer side was losing the battles, one by one. He chose to change the subject.

"So far, we've been keeping hydrated and sounding words out carefully. It's worked - our speaking is better, if not still hoarse."

"Was there magic in the world you came from?" he asked. If 'magic' couldn't be brought over, then it would be a waste of time.

We don't know.

But it's worked in two of the three we've been in, which is something.

"It's worth a try," he cut in, before the other could say anything negative. "At this point, I am willing to believe in it."

He looked over to where his other self was sitting, hunched and weak. "We don't have much time left to doubt."

*Both Matts notice the look. The Matt holding onto Near scowls, while the other says,*

In any case, building yourself up physically is probably a good idea. If you work on that, and I try to find something that'll keep you like that if you go back...

If we go into the corridor we can see what your condition is like. Up to you.

"It would be a good starting point. I have been trying to improve myself physically, though my progress is slow." Near tugged on a lock of hair.

"I can go into the corridor." He nodded towards the other Near. "He may need assistance, if you could."

I'm on it. *Matt gets a better grip on Near, pulling one of Near's arms over his shoulders, and hauls him back up to his feet.*

Will you be able to talk, when we get out of here?

Near wobbled unsteadily, trying and yet not-trying to support himself. His hand clutched onto Matt, though his grip was pathetic. He kept his eyes down, trying to force his feet to steady.

He didn't want to fall. His hands had a slight tremble of fear. If he fell, he might shatter - what then? There would be nothing left but a broken trophy, how sad. What a shame.

He shut his eyes. Meanwhile, his double addressed the other Matt's question.

"A little. We cannot talk for long... it hurts to speak too much. Would it be a problem?" Near was never really known to accommodate other people's preferences, but he would if it was necessary.

Well, it'll be a bit difficult to do anything if we can't talk. *He shifts his grip again, compensating for Near's inability.*

We'll find some paper or something. Unless you think we've figured out as much as we can, for now? You could come find us if you need us.

Near thought for a moment. "For now, this will be enough. I will speak to Ryuuzaki and explain my situation. I'll contact you if I need to."

A pause, and then he added, "Could you at least escort us to the exit? I cannot carry him."

*Good Teru gasps in shock, and runs over* What happened?

It's not real. It's like when we met Kira-Near.

It still means something bad happened inside him.

"It's him," the Near on the floor moaned miserably. "We're going to die."

"He is a different version," the standing Near reminded. "He's not the same, think logically and calm down." He shifted as best he could to address the young man properly. "I was captured by Kira. He's kept me captive for a long time, hence my appearance."

"Don't tell him!" The defeated Near jerked where he lay.

I'm sorry! *Good Teru stares at them in horror, eyes filling with tears.* I'm so sorry, I'm not going to hurt you, I'm not going to hurt anyone, ever! I...

Oh, now you've set him off.

Teru, he's hurt! And we helped.

"Calm down," the defiant, standing Near said to Teru. His voice wasn't comforting, but it was at ease. "I believe you."

"Why do you believe him?" He struggled to look up at Teru. "He was the one who trapped us!"

The defiant Near ignored the protest. "You're different. That's only logical to believe, because this mansion holds others that are not the same person we know."

*Good Teru calms down a little, kneeling beside the Near on the floor.* We are different. I promise.

And we couldn't do much to you anyway, we're nine.

That isn't helpful. *He starts trying to untie Near.*
