I wish I had an evil twin

Nov 15, 2008 20:25

*Teru thought this was the Flight Room. He even heard the giant fan whirring inside. But when he enters - suddenly there are two of him, apparently identical. One of them turns and looks apprehensively at the other, who rolls his eyes.*

Yes, we still look the same. I thought we were over the whole 'what if I'm secretly evil' thing?

...sorry. I'm ( Read more... )

When Near stepped into the room, he knew it wasn’t where he intended to be. He meant to find the kitchen to grab a snack and rest a little. Instead, he was lured into the room with the dominating thought that it would be a safe place. He was wrong.

Suddenly, there were two. On the right there was a dirt-covered, scrawny version of himself. Not quite the way he looked when he first arrived; it was the image of himself that he imagined when he had no choice but to think of his situation. Lying on the floor, hands and feet tied behind his back, with every white part of his body now tainted with brown. The wretched figure breathed heavily, staring at the floor with a tired and desperate expression.

"We’re going to die," he said in a gruff, dry, voice. It was chilling to hear, leaving a terrible sound ringing in the air. "This respite won’t last forever."

"We won’t," said a voice from the left. In contrast to the one on the ground, this one was standing with his arms and feet bound. He was clean and full, still white and pure ( ... )

At the mention that Matt and Mello were dead, the grounded Near let out a wimper and buried his face in his arms.

"I agree, there is a possibility that Mello and Matt are dead. However, if they are alive, it is likely they believe I am dead." He paused, risking a glance his other half. "Logically speaking... they wouldn't infiltrate. They wouldn't... know."

That fact was the hardest, and anyone could tell. He looked away from the Matts. "I realize that I need to find a solution to the situation. But..."

"...but I'm only one. The SPK was destroyed by the deathnote - I saw them die. Everyday, Kira's power continues to grow. Those who maintain my cell are all Kira followers as well. I'm surrounded. I'm trapped. I'm... I lost."

The other Near choked and gripped his hair. "We haven't lost. I refuse to accept it!"

Don't be fucking stupid. *Matt finishes the ankles of the Near on the ground, and drags him up onto his feet. He's careful not to let go.* Would you risk that kind of assumption?

There's a young Teru here, *the other says, thoughtful.* He went back to his own world for a bit. While he was gone, something that belonged to him found its way to the Mansion. *The knots beneath his hand loosen, but don't come apart completely. If we could find a way to do the opposite...

The dirt-ridden Near remained limp in Matt's grip. Meanwhile, the standing Near's attention was grabbed by what was just said.

"Something here to return to my world with me? Such as the knife you suggested. And then attempt to escape by attacking whoever brings the food."

For fuck's sake, man, stand up. This isn't you. *He manages to restrain from shaking Near, just yet. The other Matt finally straightens up - Near's ankles are free.*

It's a long shot, but it might work. Depends on your condition when you get back - if you stay like this, able to stand and all - and if you can get details of the layout from L. Maybe try to send a message back, too, to Matt or Mello...

His head hung. "...I can't stand. I haven't stood for a long time; the muscles are too weak."

"Do you know if our conditions here remain when we return?" Near asked. A sharpness was returning to his eyes. "As for Mello and Matt... for the moment, I will have to assume that the two died in the same fire that killed Takada."

*Matt looks from the Near he's holding to the other. Then, shifting his hands to get a better hold of them, he slowly moves until they're both sitting, still supporting Near's back.*

How about this? Can you sit?

I don't. I don't know if anyone's went back in different condition than they were before they arrived... how closely are you watched?

"...yes." He allowed himself to be seated, breathing shallow from the effort. He was weak and thin, malnourished. The effort to stand or sit was enough.

"I'm not certain about the surveillance in the building," Near admitted. "I know for certain that Kira is supposed to be watching though the camera located on the monitor he left. Whether it is actually him or not, I'm not sure. However, someone is always changing the channels to make sure only the news is shown."

*Matt doesn't stop supporting Near's back. He's surprised - a little appalled - at how thin Near is, underneath his dirty pyjamas.*

I guess it's... a gamble on how much attention he's paying you, and how much of a threat he thinks you are. If you started trying to walk, or stand...

If you're just a trophy he probably has other things to deal with. But you'd be important enough not to let just anybody watch. Right?

"That might be true," Near said, softly, from his sitting position. "It might be only a matter of time before he grows tired of seeing me."

"If he saw me, standing or attempting to escape, he might strengthen security. He still sees me as a threat, which is why he enjoys keeping me disabled."

... so we need to find out what state you'll be in when you get back. Or find a way to influence it.

"...if possible." The seated Near's hands curled around his knees as he hunched over. Matt's hand supporting his back and the possibility of plans... it was a chance to survive.

It was a chance to live.

"Yes. That would be ideal." The steady, fuller, determined Near dared to let a small smile slip through. If this could happen, it would work. This was what he was holding out for, after all these months. A second chance.

A chance to defeat Kira.

It was a step in the right direction.

So considering you're in a multdimensional hub in some other universe and have just been split into two different people, how unconventional are you willing to go with this?

Because we'd like to help.

What condition are you in now? These are extremes, right?

"I am willing to as much as possible to ensure any plans made here could work in my own world." After a slight pause, he added: "As long as it is reasonable."

"As for condition, I..." He looked down at his hands, the fingertips stained and the fingernails cracked. "...I don't look like this, not yet. When I first arrived, I was close - almost like this."

"Since coming here, I've made improvements. I've gotten more able, however..." He looked down at his hands, clean, soft fingertips and healthy nails. "I no longer look like this, I know for sure. I haven't been in this condition for a very long time."

We were in a wheelchair for a while. Still remember some of the exercises and shit - physio, you know? Upper and lower body. It might help.

As for reasonable... we've been studying runic magic. It works pretty well - we could try and figure out something. Once you're, you know. Fighting fit or whatever.

Ryuuzaki's your best bet for info on where you're being held. You know him? We could ask our L but he might be too young.

"It would," he agreed. "Vocal exercises are also necessary; both our halves are speaking effortlessly now, but as one we cannot speak."

"We fight," he admitted a little shamefully. "I want to live and he wants to win. And we haven't spoken as one for so long..."

"As for Ryuuzaki, I believe he was one of the people who first helped us. I will look out for him again." He turned to look at the one who commented about using magic. "Magic, as in spells? Those exist?"
