regedit

Editing the registry when you have no idea what you're doing is like randomly replacing elements of a car engine with duct tape. Sure, you may feel like a real mechanic at first, but sooner or later, the engine is going to fall out of your car in the middle of the highway.

1. I trust the previous respondent is someone you kid around with.

2. System Restore is supposed to handle these little problems. Have not used it myself. Of course, it will also do away with all of the duct tape.

3. Actually, I hope you're kidding around, yourself.

Good luck.

Someone else responded while I was, so #1 refers to the first respondent. The second seems more reasonable. :<)

1) Apple Fanboy. :)

2) Yeah, may have to do that. Although, it's not like the programs (or even the shortcuts to them) are lost - Windows just refuses to 'see' them. Plus, I didn't like the state things were in before, either.

3) Nah, that really is what my start menu looks like. Or rather, what it looked like earlier. I got it more or less back to how things were before I started messing with the registry, but I am still unhappy about it thinking that D:\music\new\programs is the place to put the start menu programs shortcuts. Ugh.

So you can create your own kernel from scratch but you can't hack a Windows registry.

I'm neither in development nor IT. My powers of tech troubleshooting only go as far as keeping myself out of trouble and making geek boys think I'm hot. :P

Weird, I expected that response to come from Kane...

Kane has grown tired of constantly stating the obvious solution to your tech problems, so he has passed the torch onto me.
