Specific Gravity and Flavor

I took a specific gravity reading tonight to check on how the fermentation is coming along.  My OG was 1.073 and the reading I took tonight is at 1.022.  That calculates out to a current ABV of %6.681.  Fermentation still has a ways to go and the brew taste a bit sweet still, indicating that there are still sugars yet to ferment.  I'm not sure what ( Read more... )

I don't think I really need to take any classes. I learn better through independent study. If I where to take any classes I would probably go to a brewing school. But I would most likely have to travel to do so so I don't see it as likely any time soon.

Oh yeah, about the rootbeer. I have a gallon concentrate of this stuff http://www.northernbrewer.com/pics/fullsize/sprecher.jpg
but there is no brewing involved with that one. You just have to add water and force carbonate. We can get a different concentrate and make our own ussing spices and our own sugars. If we did one like that then we could yeast carbonate it in either the Growler(1/2 gal. size) or 5 gal. batches in the soda keg, also yeast carbonated. The main cost differance there will be mostly with the cost of the extra sugar for the bigger batch.

There was a place called Rock Bottom out by the Convention center at AX you would have appreciated. Along with the brews (on a board and the menu's surprisingly) They listed the final Gravity reading, ABV of course, Birth date as well as the ratio of hopps to other ingredients.....Whats your thoughts on an Orange Peel HeifeWeisen?

I've never tried one that I know of. I've had some Belgian beers that had orange peel and corriander.
