I've been enjoying my current LJ style for a little while now. It's awesomeness to have a guy in a band I enjoy being all friendly with my adorable little frog purse, but I think it's time for a new style on my LJ.
Partially, this is because the black background gets in the way of various geeky RPG related image exchange when planning out bits for

P.S. When I upload the new Reference Pages tonight (including the one with the RPG characters), there's going to be an additional text entry field under the "LiveJournal username/community" field: "name to be displayed (optional)". This will let you enter "spacecowboy48" in one field and "Spiegel" in the other to get this result:

Shiny. I don't usually play with the lj user tags with the customized icons, just because LJ changes the code for it every time the wind shifts, and sometimes that breaks things. Though, I do use the icons in LJ styles, and that's fun.
I know I looked into it before where in the LJ style, it could substitute custom user info icons based upon user name, but I don't remember why I gave up on implementing that in the first place. I'll look into it again for the Shingen and Milliways. *shrugs* We'll see how productive I feel tomorrow when I'm off work again.

The reason that all of my custom tags broke a while back is because I stupidly included the class="ljuser" label in the code, which caused all of my links to self-destruct when LJ did a massive overhaul to improve their security, and targeted anything with that class attached. The custom tags I make now are simply image and anchor tags, without any "class" to identify them as such to LJ. I don't expect to have a major failure again like I had then; that's really the only time my code "broke" in a significant way.
As for the code to automatically substitute icons based on user name... That sounds cool. I don't think I've seen that done yet.

I don't remember if I gave up on the project because it was a paid member only override, or if I was just too lazy to type up all the css needed as well as make all the little icons. I think originally I was just going to have it apply the correct department color bald guy based upon who was posting, but since I do most of my community posting from my main screen name, and I play characters across the different department colors, and on 668, I play civillians also, I think I decided that approach was problematic. I'll have to find the instructions again, and ponder how to fix it. I might just have to make a "goddess of the community" icon, and use it for my user name.
That reminds me, I've got a coworker I'm attempting to drag into the game, and he asked me a silly question on Sunday. "What happens if I have my character just randomly hit the self destruct button?" My answer? I told him I'd metagame him out of existence. "As you approach the self destruct button*, you encounter a flaming red head with a wrinkled forehead and spots ( ... )
