Apollo had been quiet since he'd found out that this day was coming up. The last time he'd celebrated this day, less than five months ago from his perspective, it had been in the dorm common room. It had been depressing enough then, but the other pilots had been there, even if they didn't know exactly what was going on. Now none of his friends were with him, and that made this time almost not worth celebrating. He still would though, if only for tradition's sake
( ... )
Apollo was making less of the former sounds and more of the latter, mostly ignoring the utensils in favor of just grabbing things off his plate and shoving them in his mouth, but he abruptly stopped when Tenenbaum said Baron's name. He resumed chewing until his mouth was empty enough that he could talk.
"He said I was like a kid from the sun. Never thought about asking him what that was supposed to mean though."
"If I remember correctly, Apollo was the god of the sun in greed mythology. Perhaps that is the source of the name." Tenenbaum took another sip of her tea after she spoke.
"Yeah, that's where my name comes from. Never asked why he thought that was a good name for me though. I was happy just getting a name." He paused to drink some more milk. "Weird how I never thought about not having a name before he gave me one."
"One does not realize nothingness until something occupies the space. Because you had no name, you did not know what it meant to have one. Now that you do, you know all that comes with it." Tenenbaum did smile a bit now. It seemed she was getting somewhere now and that was nice.
"I know. I never thought about what it'd be like to love someone before I met Sylvia, but once I met her... I might've just been remembering being Apollonius at first, and we fought and didn't want anything to do with each other at first too, but after a while I had to start pretending I didn't like her. I hated how arrogant she was and how she was always hanging onto her stupid brother, but I like her anyways. She's strong, she doesn't hide what she thinks, she has a nice smile... Just wish I'd been able to tell her what I really thought of her sooner. We could've had more time together."
"Then remember that. Remember her in those good times. Such times are rare and to have them is a wonderful opportunity." She smiled at Apollo and finally took a bite of her food.
He started shoveling food in his mouth again. Hawkmon was glad that he had made sure to serve the others early, before Apollo ate everything. Really, where was he putting all this food? How was he not a blimp with the amount he ate?
Apollo ate in silence for a while before suddenly slowing to a stop, his eyes starting to water.
"Family takes care of each other. They try to make the other members happy and they work together to stay happy and healthy. That is what a family is."

"Yes. But things happen as they do. At least you did tell her how you felt. You had time to spend with her. Time you can cherish, correct?"
Reply
"Yeah. It wasn't much, but it was still good."

"I miss them so much."

"I am sure you do. They were your family, were they not?"

"Maybe? Dunno what a family's supposed to be like."

He sighed.
"Wonder if everyone misses me."
