Apollo had been quiet since he'd found out that this day was coming up. The last time he'd celebrated this day, less than five months ago from his perspective, it had been in the dorm common room. It had been depressing enough then, but the other pilots had been there, even if they didn't know exactly what was going on. Now none of his friends were with him, and that made this time almost not worth celebrating. He still would though, if only for tradition's sake.
He headed down to Tenenbaum's apartment, not hurrying at all. He still wasn't sure what to think of Tenenbaum. She made him food all the time, even though it wasn't her job, she had looked after him when he was sick, and now she was making food for Baron and the kids too. She wasn't a bad person, but he still didn't get her. He also wasn't sure why he'd told her what today was, just like he wasn't sure why he'd told her about Baron and his past, or why he'd told Sophia about Baron when he'd first come to DEAVA. He had no idea what to think right now. Right now he would just try and get through the day and hope that tomorrow would be better.
Hawkmon followed his partner a short ways behind. He was worried about Apollo, although he tried not to show it, since Apollo didn't usually like that kind of attention. He understood what Apollo must be going through though; he was like that whenever the anniversary of his parents' deaths came around, even if he had always acted strong for his siblings' sake. For now he would just be there for his partner as much as he could.
The two of them arrived silently at Tenenbaum's door. Apollo opened the door and entered, still silent. Hawkmon spoke up.
"We are in the kitchen!" Tenenbaum called out. She moved into the living room and looked at Apollo with a worried expression.
"Hello Apollo. Would you like to sit down and have something to drink before we eat?" She was trying to help him get comfortable, or at least as comfortable as he could get. She knew this most likely wouldn't be a happy occasion, but she could try to make it as hospitable as possible.
Tenenbaum would return to find Apollo holding a piece of light blue cloth in his hand. He didn't answer right away, instead holding it up to his nose and sniffing it, the blank mask on his face cracking slightly.
"Thanks," Hawkmon said, taking one of the glasses. He looked over at his partner. "Apollo?"
Apollo let his hand drop to his lap. "...I'm fine," he lied, putting the cloth back in his pocket and taking the other glass of milk.
Tenenbaum was a bit taken aback by the snapping but she didn't say anything. She simply sighed and walked into the kitchen. This was obviously going to he harder than she thought.
Hawkmon gave her a "do you have any idea what you're asking?" look and flew back to Apollo. He hadn't even been able to get Apollo to bathe before coming, how was he going to get him to wash his hands before eating? He thought for a minute before coming up with an approach.
"Hey, Apollo? Tenenbaum wants you to wash your hands before we eat."
Apollo was still looking away while he answered. "Why? I never wash my hands to eat and nothing happens."
"You aren't gonna get anything to eat this time unless you do."
Apollo looked over. "Why not?"
"Because that's how today's gonna work."
Apollo scowled and grumbled off to the bathroom. Hawkmon followed him and made sure he did a decent job. They emerged a few minutes later and headed back to the couch.
It wasn't long before Goblimon came out of the kitchen wearing a "Kiss the Chief" apron and a smile on his face.
"The food is done! We've set the table and everything. Come on. Time to eat." The digimon walked to the table and where the large amount of food had been placed all around. Goblimon had been slaving for hours over the stove and it had obviously paid off.
"Thank you. I worked hard on it. Now, since the doctor and I don't know anything about today...Apollo? Can you split up the portions and tell us what we're supposed to do?"
"I think he wants to know if there's anything special you do while you're eating," Hawkmon said.
Apollo reached out and grabbed a piece of meat from the nearest plate.
"Well Baron and I would eat slower until the kids were full and then we'd eat the rest, and sometimes we'd talk about random stuff, but that's pretty much always how we ate. Though if I caught a rat or a frog or something I'd just eat it myself cuz no one else wanted it for some reason."
He stuffed the meat in his mouth and began chewing while reaching out and grabbing a bun. Hawkmon began stealthily serving Tenenbaum and Goblimon, focusing on the meats and anything that required utensils to eat properly, like salad and mashed potatoes, before Apollo either ate it all or contaminated it horribly.
Goblimon nodded and helped Hawkmon by serving the drinks and making sure to get some of the breadsticks out and about. Soon enough, everyone had full plates with quite a bit to spare. The digimon began eating while Tenenbaum drank her iced tea.
"May I ask, what inspired Baron to give you the name Apollo?" Her question broke the silence that was the using of utensils and the noises of eating.

"Here you are. The food will be done soon. Is there anything I can do for you?" She set the glasses down and stood there, waiting for a response.

"She's just trying to help Apollo."
"I don't need help. I can take care of myself."
Hawkmon sighed again and flew after Tenenbaum.
"Sorry. He's been like this on and off for the past week."

"I do understand. I will give him the space he needs for now. The food will be done soon. Will you see he washes his hands?"
