But in the darkness he was losing his sense of direction. The strange red aura surrounding him didn't do much to light his way, either. That was how he ended up heading back to Chaos territory, however unintentional. After a while of wandering blindly his pace slowed. He had yet to run across anyone, but he thought he heard sounds in a nearby room. Cautiously, he continued ahead.

Terra's strength was waning. Though her minor healing abilities had aided her somewhat, the young woman could still feel the effects of the long hours of battle piling up. Her body ached--not to the point of making her non-functional, but reminding her of previous conflicts with every step.
Still, all that could be ignored for one fact; she was close. Terra knew it, could sense Kefka's repulsive presence somewhere nearby. He wasn't right there, not yet, but didn't matter. The expected confrontation that had eluded her during the last battle was not going to elude her this time. As she desired to seize the crystal for Cosmos, likely he was one of those guarding it for Chaos's ( ... )

As the battle progressed, Kuja had scarce need to venture very far, preferring to better acquaint himself with the unlikely station of his choosing: a territory so broken in and so terribly hard on the eyes that he was almost gracious when the lights first gave out. Sense quickly overwhelmed him, however. Charming. Very charming, he'd thought, far less amused until he chanced a look at himself ... turning his hand before his face in silent wonder as slowly but surely, a smile formed in the dark that was a little charmed at least.
Red, at that. Blood and rage; heat and passion. He was always unsure of how much he cared for the color until moments like these, or perhaps it was more a matter of how much he cared for the color on himself, and one couldn't exactly choose one's Trance, you know. Yet there were fewer colors that said so much ( ... )

The lights began to flicker on once more, giving her -and them- the opportunity to better face each other. Upon being able to see Kuja at last, Terra leaped into the air toward him and shot a medium-sized fireball forward that began to accelerate and home in on her target, ready to blast around him as soon as it struck. Meltdown was a handy spell. As for Kain...she still didn't want to fight him if it could be helped, but there was no time to check and see what he was doing.

There was a smirk in the dark. Fetched himself a lark, did he ...
Yet unable to see him, the deep voice booming from the hall went unanswered by Kuja save a fleeting thought of wouldn't you like to know, though it didn't go unnoticed that the feminine voice seemed to recognize him. Pity the lights had to intrude on their privacy, but it was good to see what he'd snagged. This one was a favorite of the clown, was she not? Well then. He'd just have to keep her entertained until he decided to show up, wouldn't he ( ... )

He still had to earn Cecil's trust. He had to gain redemption for all that he'd done. He couldn't achieve that by turning against Terra now. Even though he dreaded the consequences for what he was about to do.
While Kuja was occupied casting magic at Terra, Kain Jumped. He leapt high above the two of them, fortunately out of range of all that magic for now... then he swiftly descended. But not toward Terra. The target he aimed his spear at was Kuja.

Out of the corner of her eye, she saw that Kain had taken to the air. Her heart sank, not wanting to fight him as well. Faced with the two of them -and possibly more to come- she wouldn't stand a chance. And yet, as her tornadoes combined into one, Terra didn't see him descending toward her....

Having nullified his attack, Kuja focused on not being swept up himself by her wild winds. He didn't underestimate their suctioning power for a moment, crossing his arms protectively in front of his face as they raged, though he did notice the unknown Chaos warrior launching himself above. Ha! There was only a split second to be pleased at what he assumed to be an impending assault on the one who had actually attacked him for crying out loud, but clearly that would've made sense.
Shocked by his dive, Kuja gasped and leaped back in a late, but well attempted, dodge that saved him from being completely run through. He must have gotten him somewhere, however, because following both their respective maneuvers, Kuja stumbled back a step, falling to one knee as he glared up at him.
"What are you doing!?" He cried, wide-eyed and bristling. A lush line of red broke high on Kuja's thigh and had already begun to bleed a nice, steady drip. Definitely his least favorite way to wear the color, and if he scarred, Kain, so help you now...

Even as he chuckled quietly to himself as a faint gray light formed at his feet, coupled with black and white runes floating up from it, he had to give Terra a small smirk. It was always so much fun to torment her allies and friends before going after her. Once that thought had entered his demented and twisted head, a disk of gray light formed over his head, speeding off toward Shadow, occasionally dropping balls of chaotic black and white energies that detonated in a large blast upon hitting the floor.

...of course, that's when she sensed Kefka. In the midst of glancing around for the Chaos crystal, she stiffened upon noticing his presence just before that attack at Shadow. Turning quickly, she somersaulted and conjured three blasts of water to erupt underneath him. Hopefully they would at least distract him long enough for her to search....

"Really," he said, emphatically unimpressed.
Was he so surprised that a warrior of Chaos would turn on one of their own? Hmph. The last time, it seemed they all had their own agendas and Kuja had his own thoughts on a number of his former comrades. Still, he felt annoyed by this offense, because Kuja was entitled and lived in a glass house and being on the receiving end of treacheries he could commit without a conscience was just plain ridiculous. This was ridiculous.
And where was that damn-
It hadn't even occurred to Kuja that he'd shown up, but he wasn't about to get nicked by the same trick twice, eyes narrowing as the defector took to the air once more. "I don't think so," he snapped, rocketing from the floor and speeding towards him in a skyward chase. Face to face with him in the air, Kuja nearly blew him a kiss as a quintet of floating flames ensnared Kain inside the perimeters of Flare Star. Shoulders dropped, his head went back and the blazing orbs went crashing in on their target.

Kain growled in rage and pain as the fiery spell struck him. He plummeted to the ground, unable to make any attacks on either opponent for the moment. He needed a moment to recover, because that had taken a lot out of him.
