Terra's strength was waning. Though her minor healing abilities had aided her somewhat, the young woman could still feel the effects of the long hours of battle piling up. Her body ached--not to the point of making her non-functional, but reminding her of previous conflicts with every step.
Still, all that could be ignored for one fact; she was close. Terra knew it, could sense Kefka's repulsive presence somewhere nearby. He wasn't right there, not yet, but didn't matter. The expected confrontation that had eluded her during the last battle was not going to elude her this time. As she desired to seize the crystal for Cosmos, likely he was one of those guarding it for Chaos's side. Determined not to let Kefka have his way, Terra approached the entrance to the crystal room...just as she caught sight of that red glow. Quickly, she cast Blizzara in hopes that it would blast whoever it was back. Subconsciously, though, she avoided the crotch region.

As the battle progressed, Kuja had scarce need to venture very far, preferring to better acquaint himself with the unlikely station of his choosing: a territory so broken in and so terribly hard on the eyes that he was almost gracious when the lights first gave out. Sense quickly overwhelmed him, however. Charming. Very charming, he'd thought, far less amused until he chanced a look at himself ... turning his hand before his face in silent wonder as slowly but surely, a smile formed in the dark that was a little charmed at least.
Red, at that. Blood and rage; heat and passion. He was always unsure of how much he cared for the color until moments like these, or perhaps it was more a matter of how much he cared for the color on himself, and one couldn't exactly choose one's Trance, you know. Yet there were fewer colors that said so much.
Perhaps he liked it, after all.
He felt more adjusted to the feeble flickering by this point, and with the advantage of environmental foresight when he went blind, all Kuja had to do was lie in wait for the next fool that came wandering. ...So he did.
Now darkness had fallen again and there were fresh signs of movement nearby. Kuja perked at first sound, listening a moment longer before moving across the wreckage to investigate. He hovered soundlessly above the battered floor, memory alone saving him from a face full of wall toward the center of the room and just east of the door. It was a half-shattered, damp, and moldy thing that he was still hesitant to touch, bless his soul, but it made for a lovely lookout. And he still had to feel for it anyway, much to his dismay.
From behind it, he spied a sliver of cosmic blue lurking beyond the threshold of the crystal's keep. He drew a hand back, preparing to slam them with a quick shot of homing fire magic when the mystery individual suddenly cast off an attack of their own. Kuja couldn't see their target, but he could certainly see them, and that moment's distraction was all that mattered. He switched tactics immediately, stepping from behind the wall, and using the opportunity to launch his more powerful Seraphic Star, which was less timely, but far more effective on someone who didn't necessarily see it coming. It landed like a dewdrop near the enemy glow, a dim twinkle of light that faded instantly altogether before erupting in a colossal Holy blast whose brightness was the only thing lost upon it.

But he was unable to decide on what to do next- a matter that was solved for him when a red figure approached and cast a burst of holy magic. Kain leapt quickly to avoid the blast... but all the while he feared that the Cosmos fighter being targeted could be an ally or friend of his. An ice-based spell... Cecil and Rosa didn't cast Black Magic, but there was Terra, or perhaps even Celes?
"Who's there?!" Kain shouted, leaving it open to interpretation who he was shouting toward. He needed a good idea who this Chaos 'ally' of his was... and whether he'd once again need to fight his own. Still, to keep up appearances for now, Kain approached the blue figure, spear raised on them. He supposed he could fight an unknown Cosmos member if it came to it- he still liked the idea of picking duels off of anyone, and he would stop himself short of killing the person. But... again that dread nagged at him. Would he need to continue this pattern of betrayal? Continue ensuring his own side's defeat?

The lights began to flicker on once more, giving her -and them- the opportunity to better face each other. Upon being able to see Kuja at last, Terra leaped into the air toward him and shot a medium-sized fireball forward that began to accelerate and home in on her target, ready to blast around him as soon as it struck. Meltdown was a handy spell. As for Kain...she still didn't want to fight him if it could be helped, but there was no time to check and see what he was doing.

There was a smirk in the dark. Fetched himself a lark, did he ...
Yet unable to see him, the deep voice booming from the hall went unanswered by Kuja save a fleeting thought of wouldn't you like to know, though it didn't go unnoticed that the feminine voice seemed to recognize him. Pity the lights had to intrude on their privacy, but it was good to see what he'd snagged. This one was a favorite of the clown, was she not? Well then. He'd just have to keep her entertained until he decided to show up, wouldn't he?
Kuja knew just how to handle guests.
He was smiling something devious until she went up, eyes darting after her as she pulled a move that turned his smile right around. A hushed sound reflected his imminent distress as Kuja went bounding back to the wall he'd made such reluctant friends with, spinning deftly behind it, though the range of her attack sent it cutting around that corner, and had it charged but a moment longer, he could've had a very serious problem on his hands. As it were, he'd pressed his back clean up against that dirty, old wall and the bundle of flames went flying past so close he could feel the heat. Several strands of hair whipped over his open mouth, soft pants making them flutter before his smile was back briefly. A moment later, he leaped out from behind the wall, dishing a slighter dose of her own medicine in a bevy of quick fireballs headed her way.
In those slim seconds, Kuja was finally able to see who it was that might have been the subject of her previous attack and felt little concern. Why should he...? If anything, it made him just a mite more confident. Not that he needed his help in the slightest, or had that much faith in any of his so-called comrades, but anything to shake her confidence was well enough.

He still had to earn Cecil's trust. He had to gain redemption for all that he'd done. He couldn't achieve that by turning against Terra now. Even though he dreaded the consequences for what he was about to do.
While Kuja was occupied casting magic at Terra, Kain Jumped. He leapt high above the two of them, fortunately out of range of all that magic for now... then he swiftly descended. But not toward Terra. The target he aimed his spear at was Kuja.

Out of the corner of her eye, she saw that Kain had taken to the air. Her heart sank, not wanting to fight him as well. Faced with the two of them -and possibly more to come- she wouldn't stand a chance. And yet, as her tornadoes combined into one, Terra didn't see him descending toward her....

Having nullified his attack, Kuja focused on not being swept up himself by her wild winds. He didn't underestimate their suctioning power for a moment, crossing his arms protectively in front of his face as they raged, though he did notice the unknown Chaos warrior launching himself above. Ha! There was only a split second to be pleased at what he assumed to be an impending assault on the one who had actually attacked him for crying out loud, but clearly that would've made sense.
Shocked by his dive, Kuja gasped and leaped back in a late, but well attempted, dodge that saved him from being completely run through. He must have gotten him somewhere, however, because following both their respective maneuvers, Kuja stumbled back a step, falling to one knee as he glared up at him.
"What are you doing!?" He cried, wide-eyed and bristling. A lush line of red broke high on Kuja's thigh and had already begun to bleed a nice, steady drip. Definitely his least favorite way to wear the color, and if he scarred, Kain, so help you now...

So much for being quick on his feet in this environment, not with all the destruction and debris and the dilapidated condition of the battleground. Half the time Shadow had resorted to hovering and racing his way through in that manner, although he had been somewhat loathe to do that for the light from his shoes would give away his position, if the absurdly blue aura hadn't in the first place. How quaint and stereotypical, assigning those select colors for the two armies.
The battle had been much more difficult than expected given the closed quarters and the unpredictable oncoming light or darkness. But no matter, a battle was a battle no matter the circumstances, and what he was after was the Crystal. He was going to do whatever it took to obtain it. Unfortunately he knew he was not at 100% by this point, and soon this next encounter would only test out his skills and what strength and energy he had remaining.
Hearing the fiery explosions and that last screech from the one that glowed red in the darkness caught his attention as sneaked into the target room. But was that really Terra alone against two warriors of Chaos? How fair was that? At least it appeared she was holding her own against the two of them... Yet she was farther in the room and might have had a better chance at finding the Crystal at this rate.
Therefore, if the lights went out before she could notice him, Shadow let the Chaos Emerald he had in hand flash a faint, green light to let her know which one of her allies had joined her before his hands flickered with yellow, chaotic energy. Drawing attention to himself, he hoped, would give her a few precious minutes, or even seconds, to search for the Crystal uninterrupted.

Kain had grown accustomed to the constant flickering of lights- which they were doing once again. But he hadn't yet gotten used to being once more against his own team. It felt... like the right thing to do in this battle, even if he still had his doubts. But he knew there'd be more to regret if he'd done the opposite.
"Something I should have done long ago." He was unwilling to explain his treachery to Kuja beyond that. He was briefly distracted by the sight of something flashing off near the entryway- someone else joining them, it appeared? Whoever it was, Kain didn't have time to see it if was a friend or a foe. He had to help Terra.
Concentrating, Kain brought Darkness upon himself, the shadowy cloud surrounding him and increasing his power. It also would make him harder to see at times when the lights flashed off... He leapt once more, again targeting Kuja.

Even as he chuckled quietly to himself as a faint gray light formed at his feet, coupled with black and white runes floating up from it, he had to give Terra a small smirk. It was always so much fun to torment her allies and friends before going after her. Once that thought had entered his demented and twisted head, a disk of gray light formed over his head, speeding off toward Shadow, occasionally dropping balls of chaotic black and white energies that detonated in a large blast upon hitting the floor.

...of course, that's when she sensed Kefka. In the midst of glancing around for the Chaos crystal, she stiffened upon noticing his presence just before that attack at Shadow. Turning quickly, she somersaulted and conjured three blasts of water to erupt underneath him. Hopefully they would at least distract him long enough for her to search....

"Really," he said, emphatically unimpressed.
Was he so surprised that a warrior of Chaos would turn on one of their own? Hmph. The last time, it seemed they all had their own agendas and Kuja had his own thoughts on a number of his former comrades. Still, he felt annoyed by this offense, because Kuja was entitled and lived in a glass house and being on the receiving end of treacheries he could commit without a conscience was just plain ridiculous. This was ridiculous.
And where was that damn-
It hadn't even occurred to Kuja that he'd shown up, but he wasn't about to get nicked by the same trick twice, eyes narrowing as the defector took to the air once more. "I don't think so," he snapped, rocketing from the floor and speeding towards him in a skyward chase. Face to face with him in the air, Kuja nearly blew him a kiss as a quintet of floating flames ensnared Kain inside the perimeters of Flare Star. Shoulders dropped, his head went back and the blazing orbs went crashing in on their target.

Just as planned and predicted, attacks were coming his way, although Shadow hadn't anticipated two of the ones glowing red attacking each other. Nothing surprised him, not even the appearance of that insipid clown. Terra had told him that an encounter with him would be inevitable.
Water was rushing up from the ground, and the black hedgehog didn't have time to watch the full effect of the spell before he had to dash off, leaping over piles of rubble and running along the wall to avoid being blasted away or falling through the floor. Shadow couldn't help the smirk playing across his lips. Two could play at the game of chaotic power manipulation, and the harlequin was only asking for it, wasn't he?
He turned back in his attacker's direction, hands glowing a brighter yellow than before, the smirk still present on his face. Chaos Spears, bolts of lightning of the same golden color, rushed toward and hurled themselves at the clown. As long as he did distract Kefka away from the half-esper, it was all he could ask for at the moment.

Kain growled in rage and pain as the fiery spell struck him. He plummeted to the ground, unable to make any attacks on either opponent for the moment. He needed a moment to recover, because that had taken a lot out of him.

Thankfully, he was able to recover his composure even as he pulled himself from a girder he was thrown up against, in time to see Shadow's impending attack. The energies the hedgehog manipulated with such ease was intriguing to say the least, not to mention the piece of what Kefka thought was magicite would mark him as a target for the future. After sending another Forsaken spell to meet the quickly moving bolts and nullifying the attack in a rather violent explosion, Kefka spared a glance at Kuja and Kain.
"Kuja, deal with the rodent. I have more pressing matters to attend to. We'll deal with the traitor later."
He didn't trust Kuja to blindly follow orders, but he hoped that Kuja knew enough about magic to know that a clash between Kuja and Shadow would only result in collateral damage that would only weaken their overall defenses. For now, he turned his sights to Terra, readying a Trine spell.
