I was feeling a bit gloomy: at least I have been getting calls from recruiters, but hadn’t gotten further. Apparently my body really didn’t want to do a 2K erg test today, because not only did the test piece itself feature dry-heaving, but now I have a migraine aura and can’t see out of my left eye. Fortunately, for me the aura doesn’t generally lead to a real full-blown migraine, just a minor ache at most (knock wood!).

I set a personal record on the erg today for the half marathon, despite having also done one on Friday afternoon and 9km yesterday. I beat my previous record from December 2001 by 13 seconds. I’ve never really, really gone full out on one of them. This one had a split of 2:43; I suspect I could manage at least a 2:39 split, if I were willing to be ( Read more... )

Before I plunge into matters not of general interest, Thanksgiving Day was great. I erged 9km, made cranberry sauce, and had enough time for it to cool before heading off to dinner - a restaurant provided turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, stuffing (from the organizer’s mom’s recipe) and a few of us brought extra stuff. A few weeks ago I started doing marathon training again (the 80,000m programme here). I don’t plan to do any marathons in the near future, but I do need a training plan to push me and I need to build up to doing more meters before the Concept 2 Holiday Challenge begins at Thanksgiving. For no particular reason, I got no sleep at all the night before last. Maybe jet lag kicked in late, because I’d slept fine the previous two nights. If it had to happen, it was the right night for it; I was able to talk to Ted after his meeting (I’d texted him that I was awake, so he knew it was OK to call at 2:30AM. I’ve just started logging on Fitocracy. It looks like a useful tool, in that I can log all my exercise in a single place. I’ve been logging rowing / erging on the Concept II website, weight-lifting on a spreadsheet, and anything else nowhere. I do also kind of like the way they award points for everything, though I’m not so convinced about how they ( Read more... )
