Apparently my body really didn’t want to do a 2K erg test today, because not only did the test piece itself feature dry-heaving, but now I have a migraine aura and can’t see out of my left eye. Fortunately, for me the aura doesn’t generally lead to a real full-blown migraine, just a minor ache at most (knock wood!).
On the plus side, I finished it

That's also a fairly high max heart rate, as you've observed. Are you going to continue training for 2ks? If so, it sounds like you'll have your work cut out for you now. I suspect your new split numbers and heart rate numbers are going to start converging more, with your new 2k base time. None of that is a problem, it will just be interesting to see what happens next.

In my case the dry heaves are more about sinus than stomach - a back of the throat-drip sort of thing - which is why testing later in the day would be likely to help. The sinus stuff is also probably what triggered the migraine (but I'm calling it that rather than a sinus headache since AFAIK the latter don't produce visual effects). I've been known to have it happen in races too, which is loads of fun for doubles partners. I've never actually puked, though, on an erg or in a boat.
My best 2K time ever was just under 9:00; this one was 9:15, so there's still lots of room for improvement. But as I said, it had been so long that I don't think the previous test was a very good one. I had no idea what split to try for. This was the 8-week test; next comes a lot of speed work, which should help.
