I finally feel like I’m getting back on track with my workouts
WHile logging today’s meters in at the Concept 2 website, I realized that I’ve worked out more this week than I’d thought - despite missing one day because I wasn’t feeling well, I’ve gotten in five workouts this week, and the ones last Sunday, today and last Thursday were especially hard:
Last Sunday: 13 km on the erg - felt wimpy about not rowing due to lousy weather, but this is more distance than I’ve done in quite a while so I’m happy with that.
Monday: a reasonable weight-lifting workout (Stage 3A from The New Rules of Lifting for Women, though I still am not doing all the bodyweight set at the end - it’s supposed to be 24 squats, 12 lunges per leg, 24 squat jumps, 12 lunge jumps per leg, and there’s just no way my body’s doing that after lifting).
Tuesday: off
Wednesday: just a light 5m on the erg
Thursday: a good weight-lifting workout including raising a few weights from where I was before, followed intervals on the erg - 5 x (1 minute very hard, two minutes rowing very lightly)
Friday: 8.4 km on the water, not rowing too hard because my body felt leaden
Saturday: extremely active “active rest” day - lots of errands plus helping out at the rowing club’s open day, showing first-timers what rowing is like
today /Sunday: a good solid 10.6 km row, with my heart rate up in the 140s or above most of the time.
The disconcerting moment of today was realizing that no wonder the junior doubles are so much faster - not only are there two of them and they’re much bigger than I am, but their total age added together doesn’t equal mine (actually, this would now be true of collegiate doubles as well). Weird.
On Saturday we also walked around looking for places to have the goodbye party we want to hold in early December, and we’ve got a couple good possibilities. Today we continued our tradition of not going to Amsterdam, just like last week. We do really need to go soon, though - we want to pick up a present there for an upcoming family wedding.
On the workout front, I’m debating if I should start the marathon training plan again; I don’t have any particular desire to finish it, but even doing the beginning would help me to get my endurance back up for the Holiday Challenge and also for a local head race I think I might do. (I was thinking I *would* do it, until I realized the date might conflict with that December party!)
