My Oh-So-80s Life

Apr 16, 2011 12:06

Yesterday's Wig Out was bitchen! It was rad! It featured another of J's projects: an 80's synthpop duo called The Colour Thirteen and, OMG, I'm such a fangirl now. They have three tracks available at their site with more on the way. World War Nine (a.k.a WWIX) really showcases their 80's sound, but I'm posting Cairotica for reasons that'll become obvious once you hear it.

The usual retinue of cabaret acts followed. Organizer and promoter Jean Natalia led a fabulous rendition of Stand and Deliver, complete with girl!Adam Ant and a guy on electric shamisen. It was interesting enough seeing one of those instruments on stage without a full complement of highwaymen belting out this classic song. Second on my list of favorites was dreadheaded!Boy George and suit+boa!Boy George battling it out to Do You Really Want to Hurt Me? Ian MacKinnon did a gay furry take of a popular Duran Duran song while dressed up in a wolf costume. Master of jewish vampire comic shtick Count Smokula read about taxes with Warm Leatherette playing in the background. It was April 15th after all. Fire-artists Machina Candeo were surprisingly low-key dressed as IRS vampires. They had strips of paper safety-pinned to their suits with quotes like "Give us your money, we're broke too."

And yes, I wore my new wig. And a mini-skirt. And rubber bracelets, and a neon leotard, leotard, because it was the 80s, yo.

wig out, la-la land, extra-awesome music
