A lot of my friends are musicians. But I usually find this out before I've known them for too long. J-, on the other hand, is a freaking gifted dark horse. Never breathed a word about his stuff, or if he did I was too occupied by vodka-tonics and pounding music to recall. But I really think I would have remembered.
So, anyway, I get one of those MySpace friend requests and almost deleted it because I'm all "oh, fercryingoutloud, another crappy L.A. band." But then I go to the page and listen, and it sounds great -- all black and gritty and tricked out with electronic samples and effects. And then I read about the band and its sez "J-" and I'm all "J- of E- & J-?! The guy who had me rolling on the floor when he wore the lid off a box of printer paper as a hat at my Lunar New Year's party, as he held a plastic spoon as a scepter and looked like the Emperor of All Freakin' Chinese Food except that he was a bald white dude?"
Yeah, that guy.
Turns out he has not just one but two EPs.
So if you guys are my friends, you need to at least check these out. *shoos friends in the general direction of the tunes*. Trust me -- they rock.
I think he even sampled one of the TOS bridge noises for one of the songs :) Yummy. Now I must get my ass beat with this stuff on in the background, tell him about it, and watch as he makes a disgusted face :)
