Catherine burrowed down into the blankets and switched on the television to see what was on. She knew it would be mostly soap operas, and maybe a children’s show, but she did it anyway, just for something to do.
Geoffrey would call to see where she was any minute.
She muted it on something involving a dwarf and reached for the phone.
Three.
Two.
One.
Ring.
She picked up the receiver and held it to her ear.
“Hey.” Where was she? “Home sick.” Sick with what? “Just a cold.” Did she need anything? “No. I’m fine, thanks.” Did he need to come over. “Probably not, unless you want what I’ve got.” He was just worried about her. “Of course.” He’d be over after work tonight. “Whatever makes you happy.”
They said their good-byes and she set the phone down, then settled back in to see exactly why this show involved a dwarf.
